WHAT IS ADAPTIVE REUSE ?

• Adaptive reuse of heritage buildings refers to repurposing or


reusing an existing structure for a completely different
purpose than what it was intended for. Reusing allows the
building to be used for a longer period. T h e term is more
common to repurposing historic buildings although all kinds of
buildings can be recycled. This can save hundreds of
buildings from getting demolished only to rebuild again.
LALITHA MAHAL PALACE HOTEL
• The Lalitha mahal palace hotel is the
second largest palace in Mysore. It is
located near the Chamundi hills.

• The palace was commissioned by the


Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, and
completed in 1931. It was built to house
the Viceroy of India, and later, was used
as a guest house for special visitors.

• Architectural style – renaissance.

• Architect – E.W.Fritchley.

• Client – Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV.

• Built up area – 81 care.

The central hall is adorned with life


size portraits of the Royalty,
lithographs portraying tippu Sultan’s
skirmishes with the British,
decorative motifs on the walls and
ceiling.

The erstwhile Ballroom has been
recreated as a Gourmet Restaurant
open for Breakfast,Lunch, and
Dinner. The stunning Durbar
ambiance with rich lace curtains and jharokha
Jharokhas.
Jharokha - The Jharokha is a stone
window projecting from the wall face
of a building,in an upper story,
overlooking a street,market,court or
any other open space.

BANQUET HALL
The banquet hall interior is same as the OUTDOOR
restaurant interior.
The wooden flooring , have roof of stained
glass, wall carving, high ceiling, and jharokha.

Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel has 3 banquet hall


to host family or corporate event-

•Outdoor venue with a seating capacity of


1000 and 2500 floating guests

• Indoor banquet hall with a seating capacity


of 800 and 2000 floating guests

•Poolside venue with a seating capacity of 500

Among the rooms at the hotel, the ones with princely proportions are ‘Heritage Classic Suite’, ‘Duplex
Suite’, ‘Vicerine Suite’ and the ‘Viceroy Suite’. All of them have high-ceiling with plenty of natural light,
period furniture, four poster beds, deep velvet covered arm chairs and gilt-framed Belgian Mirrors. The
huge and inspiring bathrooms of all the suites are equipped with original Shanks of Scotland (now
Armitage) plumbing fixtures.
