How to Prepare General Awareness for RBI Grade B

In RBI Grade B 2021, 2022 and 2023, 60% of Phase 1 current affairs questions and almost 100% of
Phase 2 current affairs questions were from 4 sources:

• PIB releases
• RBI press release
• SEBI press release
• Reports and Indices.
In simple terms you need to understand that GA in phase I is not GA, it’s basically 40-50% Economic
and Social Issue and 20% Finance of RBI Grade B Phase II syllabus, same applies in NABARD
Grade A as in that exam too, Economics and Social Issue, Agriculture and Rural Development, apart
from General Awareness contains many questions from above four sections. These are high
"Return on investment" (ROI) current affairs.

The rest of the current affairs is the Low ROI current affairs, and we will call it SSC here onwards
(SSC= Soul-sucking current affairs).

Examples of SSC:

• States in the news, Conferences, Appointments, Books and Authors, Important days, Sports,
Summits, MoU, etc.

General Awareness in RBI Grade B Include:

I. Banking and Economy Affairs (In phase I questions from Banking, corporate, economy anything can be
asked but in mains mainly questions from RBI, SEBI and Few economies related questions are generally
asked)

II. Programs and Policies (Most Important)

III. Important Reports and their highlights (3-4 Q in Phase I but in Phase II exam, it’s very important, In RBI
Grade B Phase II 2023, they asked 2 Marks Questions Based on Reports)

IV. Static Awareness (Based on current affairs),

V. General Current affairs (National, International, MoU, Summits, States, Appointments etc)

Note: General Awareness in RBI Grade B is Not the GA of Banking Exam rather ESI Current Affairs, so
you should focus more on ESI current affairs as it would help you score in both Phase I and Phase II Exam.

Current Affairs Preparation for Phase I & II Simultaneously

Important: First thing first, you need to understand that, in Phase II only 50 Marks objective is being asked
i.e., 20-2 makers and 10 - 1 marker questions, which means only 30 questions will be asked and RBI try to
touch various dimension such as Reports, Banking news including RBI and Programs & Policies. So you
need to learn to eliminate redundant info based on the latest pattern.

Your focus should be to covering Points I, II & III (mentioned above) religiously on regular basis and
either leave IV/V for after notification or you can prepare notes of it to revise before exams, especially for
those who are not so good in QRE, as they will need to time to do that too.

Point I. For Phase I, all the banking, business, corporate, economy news are important but for Phase II,
RBI News/Circulars/Reports, SEBI News/Policies, Newly launched Apps and Programs by Banks etc. are
significantly very important.

Point II. No need to cover all the old programs but, you need to cover all the old programs motioned in last
6 months PIB articles alongside Flagship schemes of Important Ministries. For newly launched programs,
you need to cover all the programs launched b/w Budget to Budget.

Point III. Reports from only selected National & International Institutions are important. International - UN
Organizations like UNDP, UNCTAD, UNESCO, UN-ESCAP, FAO, IEA, WMO; Financial Organization -
World Bank, IMF, ADB; Trade Body - WTO and Others - WEF and OECD. National Institutions - NITI
Aayog (Only reports which related to our syllabus), RBI, Ministries reports (Only reports which related to
our syllabus)

Point IV. No need to remember all the currency & capitals, national parks etc. Just focus on those which
were in news in last 4-5 months, In Affairs cloud PDF they exclusively mention this thing, or you can try to
make note of it by yourself.

Point V. There are several hundreds of news related to it, which is theoretically impossible to remember, so
either you can leave it for after notification or just make online short notes out of it so that you can revise it
after notification.

How to Prepare General Awareness Notes:

If you read 6 months of current affairs, you will come across more than 700 news related to Banking
products. You keep mugging up various apps, campaigns, MoUs, insurance deals etc., for every bank. But
when the question comes in your exam, " Which bank launched XYZ", you get confused whether it was
HDFC or ICICI. Congratulations :)

The human brain loves Patterns; let's give it what it wants:

When you feed information to your brain in a random and chaotic manner, it gets messy. The human brain
loves patterns. Organize your information around various structures and themes; your brain will thank you.
Like RBI in News, SEBI in News, PSBs in News, Private Banks in News etc.

For example, all the news related to SBI is given in one single place. Similarly, there is one separate
section for all the major banks. Having everything compiled in one place will reduce exam-time
confusion.

Sources to follow:

— PIB (Use separate coverage, although Affairs cloud covers most of the news, but they miss lots
of schemes in news related updates, so you need a separate coverage means PIB Summary PDF. You
can do it by yourself by going through each and every article or by any compilation PDF. You can Buy PIB
Summary from Here.

— Banking and Economy (Try to read Daily Newspaper Mostly Mint or Business Line or Business
Standard) and after from that follow any Compilation on it. Weekly Newspaper Summary is also provided
by me (Brajesh Mohan) on my Telegram channel and website. You can download here.

— Reports and Indices (Note down the report name from AC and search google using upsc upfront, for
example world development report upsc, you will get summary from some UPSC related websites. We are
also covering all the reports and Indices in detail so if you are following out PIB Magazine then you
don't need to anything additional.

— RBI Reports and Circulars (Covered very well in Our PIB Magazine).

— Newspaper (Read Free Weekly Newspaper Summary by Brajesh Mohan covering 5-6 Newspaper) -
Its one of most significant sources for RBI Grade B and it worked as Ramban in RBI Grade B 2023. - Read
Here

— For rest others: Use any magazine doesn't matter, everyone posts similar thing, or you can use Affairs
cloud which most people follow. In future, I'm also planning to launch AffairsTap full length Magazine
covering everything, hopefully it will be available soon.

RBI Grade B 2024: Quant and Reasoning

All those who are only preparing for RBI Grade B and no other bank exams can follow this for Quant
and Reasoning Ability. As you know, without scoring sufficient marks (Sectional cutoff or at least 15% to
25% of marks), you can't give Phase II and can't realize the dream of becoming an RBI Grade B officer if
RBI continues with this exam pattern and level of questions. No matter how good you are in Phase II
subjects, if you don't get a chance to attempt them, then how could you show your knowledge?

For QRE, or Only Quant and Reasoning, there are two ways, and most people are confused about which
way to follow; some are suggesting CAT Exam books, some are Bank PO Mains, etc.; many people have
many suggestions, and in the same way, I'm also sharing one way that may work, and I would also give
you the logic behind it.

See, most of the CAT books, either Quantum CAT, Objective Arithmetic, Arun Sharma, Gautam Puri, or
Nishit K. Sinha, can help you with covering the basics, but it may not be the case that similar pattern-based
questions would be asked in the exam as books are for different purposes. These are the best books, but
for RBI Grade B Prelim, I don't think you should follow them if you are not going to give Bank PO, SSC,
CAT, etc., and the only purpose is to clear the sectional cutoff of RBI Grade B Prelim.

What to do?

Buy a mock test like Olive or PM, or get the Bank PO Mains Level DI and Questions booklet (PDF) based
on the latest pattern and latest edition (Checklist something). I would suggest mock tests, as they keep
getting updated based on the latest trends.

Step I: Make a list of Topics that need to be covered, watch this video for
this https://youtu.be/wCjMgeNI57A (Don't leave the puzzle and at the same time try to master 2-3 types
from where questions always come, like floor, flat, scheduling, circular, etc., whichever you find easy, but
also learn the concepts of other types; may be some easier questions come from those types). Similarly,
you also need not leave DI; this year, one DI in both shifts was doable, and maybe that's why the sectional
cutoff didn't go down, but don't be selective in DI; learn all types and master a few types.

Step 2: Now watch videos of Bank PO Prelims, Mains Level Puzzles, DI, etc. There are some very good
Educators in this domain, like Mains DI playlist on Learning Capsule by Harshal Agarwal, Studified by
Ashish Arora, Banking Chronicle by Ankush Lamba, Meenakshi ma'am on Guidely (I haven't watched,
some people's recommendations), Veteran, Career Definer and also the Team AVP, etc. If needed, you
can enroll in their classes; most teachers are on Unacademy these days, although I'm not sure.
Step 3: After learning the concept and solving some Level 1 and 2 PO Prelim level questions from the
PDF, Daily Check List (Ashish Arora), or sectional Mock, you need to increase your level to solve advanced
level questions to get ready for the RBI Grade B Prelim exam. For this mains level Mock test, and here with
attempting, you don't think about marks but rather attempt it, submit it, and then solve all the questions.
Initially, it may take 30 minutes to solve a puzzle, but you don't need to lose patience or think negatively of
yourself, because I know people who didn't know the difference between a PM and a President initially, but
later went on to clear the topmost exams. Just be consistent, and your only aim should be to learn and
practice as much, so that you can clear the sectional cutoff.

What changes must be brought in the RBI grade B preparation after the new pattern?

Change in Mindset – It is no more a 3-month preparation examination. It is a job at the Central Bank, it is
a serious business. However, some commentators previous termed it as 3–6-month preparation
examination. Start with your graduation or as early as possible.

Study in detail – Since the examination is no more a guess work anymore, you need to start studying in
detail. you need to know details like facts, numbers and also reasons and history of any particular news
items. While studying any news or related item make short pointers Importance, Reason, Advantages,
Consequences, Challenges, Steps from Govt in this direction and what can be the possible way forward. It
helps in building opinions and revision.

Develop reading habit – For this, follow quality websites like the Business Line, Business Standard, Live
Mint, centralbanking.com, and also read some books not related to your preparation but related to Indian
banking/finance industry. It helps in developing interest around the job you are aspiring. Plus, only if
you are a good reader then only you can be a good writer.

Typing Answer or Articles – Start writing or rather typing. You need to match your thinking speed with
your tying speed (Yeah, it important). This can only happen if you practice. Many of the youngsters are not
used to keyboard typing and this can negatively impact their chances. Another reason for typing is to test
yourself.

• Don’t keep it pending for the last three months, or to get “right topics” to answer. You shall start it
“right now”, start writing summaries or critical analysis of anything you get on the
internet/newspaper. It will only and only improve your ability to tackle questions “which you haven’t
studied” in the exam.
• Don’t really wait for the assessment of your written answers from experts or coaching centres, use
your friends, put it in telegram groups for open assessment. Accept the criticism and build on it.
• You can also use ChatGPT and BARD to get feedbacks for your answers.

Profile building – If you are sitting at home and doing nothing except preparation. It would be better to
do any online course from IIBF or Coursera in Something related to Banking Sector, It adds value to
your Bio-Data and ultimately show Panel that you are interested in banking.

RBI Grade B 2024: 5 Step Process for Newcomers

It's a normal human tendency that whenever we come across something really good, it feels tempting to
ace that new thing. You can understand it through this example: when you have a crush on some girl
or guy, you want him or her at any cost. The same applies here as well.

Don't only day dream about becoming RBI officer rather you will have to understand that the journey to
reach RBI is very daunting and it is full of ups and down, you will have consistently prepare for it for next 6-
8 months; you can't clear RBI Grade B 2024 by only thinking about it or by buying some or many courses,
or by downloading pdfs from all over the telegram.

You will have to follow the step-by-step process, and jumping any step will only take you away from
your destination.

What are the suggestions?

Step 1: Self-understanding of the exam (Knowing What to do): You will have to create your own
understanding of the whole exam process. I always say competitive exams rented knowledge se clear nai
hota. The moment you have an understanding of the exam, you will start relating it to many things, and
things will become easier for you.

Step 2: Figuring out about sources (How to do it): If you ask 10 people, 7 will tell you about completely
different sources, and many times they haven't even read anything from those sources; they are
recommending them because someone recommended these to them or they heard about them from
someone else. Also, Every institute claims their course is the best, Including me, but you will have to figure
out if you really need coaching or if you can do it by self-study, or what type of content you want, like
whether you need videos to study or if you can cover it through non-videos (PDFs only), and what are the
best 1-2 books that could be utilized per subject. What are the sources of current affairs, programs, etc.?
Step 3: Planning (When to read what?): This part is very important; once you figure out sources, you
don't need to collect PDFs or any random materials. You just need to stick to whatever you have decided.
In this step, you need to plan your day according to the time available to you. Don't just jump to Summary
or notes pdfs; they limit your scope of learning. Exams have evolved; you wouldn't be able to write answers
by reading summary PDFs.

Step 4: Execution, Analysis, and Modification: This is the most difficult stage, as here you will have to
chase down your crush (RBI). Remember, no plan is perfect; you will have to analyze your performance
every 15 days or on a monthly basis to see if whatever you have decided is something you are able to
complete as well as how much learning you have had in that duration.
RBI GRADE B SIMPLIFED
Step 5: Don't Run Behind exams; First get ready for them. You have 6-8 months for next exam, a well
consistent preparation will make you ready for it, otherwise the story will be same.

"Consistency is the Key to success"
