3. C
4. D
5. B
6. A
7. D
8. A) x+ y = 36 B) (0,36) (36,0) C) No D) Yes E) (36,0) (0,36)
9. If the points A (3, 5) and B (1, 4) to lie on the graph of line ax + by = 7 must satisfy the given
equation
So for x = 3 and y = 5
3a + 5b = 7 ................. (1)
for x =1 and y = 4
a + 4b = 7
⇒ a = 7 – 4b ................ (2)
putting the value of a from (2) in (1) we get
3(7 – 4b) + 5b = 7
21 – 12b + 5b = 7
–7b = 7 – 21 = – 14
13.
Let the smaller number = y
and larger number = x
Given, the difference between two numbers is 3
=> x - y = 3
When x = 0, y = -3
When y = 0, x = 3
So, the two coordinates are (0, -3) and (3, 0)
Now, the graph is shown as below:
15. If the points A(1, 2), B(–1, –16) and C(0, –7) lie on the graph of the linear equation y = 9x – 7
then the these points should satisfy the equation of the given line.
Let us check it:
For point A(1, 2),
Here, x = 1 and y = 2, therefore
y = 9x – 7
⇒ 2 = 9 (1) – 7
⇒2=2
Thus, point A lies on the given line.
For point B(–1, –16)
Here, x = –1 and y = –16, therefore
y = 9x – 7
⇒ –16 = 9 (–1) – 7
⇒ –16 = –16
Thus, point B lies on the given line.
For point C(0, –7),
Here, x = 0 and y = –7, therefore
y = 9x – 7
⇒ –7 = 9 (0) – 7
⇒ –7 = –7
Thus, point C lies on the given line.
Hence, all three points A, B and C lie on the line y = 9x – 7.
16.
From the graph, we have when boys are 20, girls are 30.
17.
From the graph, P(4, 2) is a point where
abscissa is twice the value of ordinate.
18.
The point will lie on the linear equation only if the coordinates satisfy the equation
2(x+1)+3(y−2) =13
y 7 14 21
x 7 8 9
3𝑥 − 𝑦 = −6
y 18 24 27
x 4 6 7
