DIRECTIONS: Solve the following problems as completely as possible. COPY AND ANSWER. Use GRESA method
and HIGHLIGHT THE FINAL ANSWER. Put in a LONG BOND PAPER and use ENGINEERING LETTERING (3mm Font

1. Determine the volume and density of an object that weighs 4 N in water and 5 N in an alcohol of SG
0.8.

2. A block of wood floats in water 7 inches projecting above the water surface. It is placed in alcohol of
sp. gr. 0.82 and projected 4 in. above the surface. What is the SG of the block? Provide illustration.

3. An ore sample weighs 15N in air. When the sample is suspended by light chord and totally immersed
in water, the tension in the cord is 10.80 N. Find the total volume of the sample. Provide illustration.

4. What fraction of the volume of a solid piece of metal of sp gr 7.25 floats above the surface of a
container of mercury of sp gr 13.57?

5. To what depth will an 8-ft-diameter log 15 ft long and of sp gr 0.425 sink in fresh water?
