decimal form.MSNS-llf-
116.2

Hello! Have a nice day!

Let’s recall what we have learned about dividing whole numbers with quotients
in decimal form.

Are you ready?

Before we divide the whole numbers with decimal quotients, we must look first
the dividend and the divisor. If the divisor is greater than the dividend, then the
quotient is in decimal form.

How do we divide whole numbers with quotient in decimal form?

Study the following examples.

EXAMPLE 1

Mike made 3 sandwiches for his 6 friends. If his friends ate the same amount of
the sandwiches he has made, what part of the sandwich did each of his friends
eat?

Find 3 ÷ 6 = _____

Follow these steps.

STEP 1: Write a zero and a decimal point in the quotient as well as a zero in the
tents place of the dividend.

0.
6 3.0

STEP 2: Divide. Continue dividing until the difference is equal to zero.

0.5
6 3.0
- 3.0
0
1
STEP 3: Check. Multiply the quotient and the divisor. The answer must be equal
to the dividend.

0.5
X6
3.0
Answer: Each of his friends ate o.5 or half of the sandwich.

EXAMPLE 2

Jonas bought two boxes of cassava pudding. Each box contains 8 slices. He
wants to share it with his 32 friends. How much cassava pudding did each of his
friends eat?

Find: 8÷ 32 = ___

Follow these steps.

STEP 1: Write a zero and decimal point in the quotient as well as a zero in the
tenths place of the dividend.

0.
32 8.0

STEP 2: Divide. Continue dividing until the difference is equal to zero.

0.25
32 8.00
- 6.4
1.60
1.60
0

STEP 3: Check .By using multiplication.

32 x 0.25 = 8
8=8

Answer: Each of his friends ate 0.25 of cassava pudding.

EXAMPLE 3

Five pupils ordered 2 cakes. If they ate an equal amount of the 2 cakes, how
much cake did each student eat?

Find: 2÷ 5 = ___

Follow these steps.

STEP 1: Write a zero and a decimal point in the quotient as well as a zero in the
tenths place of the dividend.

0.
5 2.0

STEP 2: Divide. Continue dividing until the difference is equal to zero.

0.4
5 2.0

STEP 3: Check. Using fraction.

2 ÷ 5 = 2 = 0.4

Answer: Each pupil ate 0.4 of the cake.

Apply what you learned. Find the quotient and check.
