“OPEN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM”

Open High School program is a big help on the students who are working on
weekdays and to achieve their dream and goal in life. DepED implements Open High
School Program To further provide access to education for all, the Department of
Education implemented its Open High School Program (OHSP), an alternative mode of
delivering secondary education for both public and private schools in the country.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus through DepED Order No. 46 said that the
program aims to retain in school potential dropouts, encourage out-of-school youths of
high school age to return to school and to contribute to the Education for All (EFA 2015)
target which aims to achieve a 100 percent participation rate and zero drop-out rate by
year 2015.” OHSP puts premium on independent, self-pacing and flexible study to reach
learners who are unable to start or complete secondary education due to problems on
time, distance, physical impairment, financial difficulties or family problems. It provides
learners of high school age access to formal secondary education through an
alternative mode of delivery.

The OHSP was pilot tested at San Nicolas National High School, Ilocos Norte,
Region I; Isabela National High School, Isabela Province, Region II; Olongapo City
National High School, Olongapo City, Region III; Dasmariñas National High School
(Cavite City), Quezon National High School (Lucena City) and Lipa City National High
School (Lipa City), Region IV-CALABARZON; Occidental Mindoro National High School
(Occidental Mindoro) and Panitian National High School-Española (Palawan), Region
IV-MIMAROPA; Camarines Norte National High School, Camarines Norte, Region V;
Sagay City National High School (Sagay City) and Dumaguete National High School
(Dumaguete City), Region VI; Ormoc City National High School, Ormoc City, Region
VIII; Don Pablo Lorenzo National High School, Zamboanga City, Region IX; Camiguin
National High School, Camiguin, Region X; Davao del Sur National High School, Davao
del Sur, Region XI; New Society National High School and other regions in the
Philippines.
