The Workspace
All main activities in the NX Service and Configuration Tool are performed in
the Workspace.
The Workspace is mainly introduced for the purpose of safety and to monitor
the consistency of the configuration settings of the NX database. The
Workspace creates a safe environment for the user in which he can make any
modifications to the configuration settings, test and verify them without
affecting the actual configuration settings of the NX system.
When starting up the NX Service and Configuration Tool, the user can choose
to load a temporary copy (snapshot) of the NX database in the Workspace via
File > Load active configuration:

pane opened.
The following section describes how to configure text boxes on the print
sheet.
Note: The system must have the print license installed; otherwise print
configuration is not possible.
Note: On the NX system, there is only one image text box that will be used on every
print sheet.
You can perform the following actions, as many times as needed in any order:
A bitmap can only be positioned to the left and/or the right of the text box.
These positions are always present. As long as the cell is empty: the width of
the text box is calculated without the logo.
Note: There will always be one pre-configured Sheet text box in the system.
You can:
Q Adjust the width of the text box and scale all cells to this new width. The width
is set to the total width of the text box, including the bitmaps, if they are not
empty (empty bitmap cells are not included).
Q Add the cell to the left or right of the selected cell by splitting the cell in two.
Q Delete a cell. If the cell is a bitmap cell (located at the left or right of the bit-
map), the bitmap is removed.
Each cell of the text box is scaled, the total width of the text box remains the
same.
Q Add/delete rows.
Figure 69 : Device Configuration Window with general Printer settings - Image Text Box
pane opened.
This section describes how to configure the Image text box. An image text box
always has two cells and a configurable numbers of rows.
The image text box can only contain cells (bitmaps excluded) of the sheet text
box. Also the formatting of the cells is copied from the sheet text box. The
height of the rows will depend on the font size of the cells: each text must be
readable in the font as specified in the sheet text box.
An image text box is always scaled to the image cell. The font size is scaled as
well with the restriction that the text must remain readable (smallest font size
= 3mm). Text that does not fit the cell, will be limited to the part that can be
viewed.
As a user, you can specify which cells of the Sheet text box must be shown in
the Image text box. This will add the cells to the image text box, with same
font size.
When you add a new printer, a print profile is added by default to the printer.
You can add new print profiles for this printer.

RIS mapping
Typically, the RIS settings are configured in two steps:
Q The list with the mappings of the SPS attributes to the attributes of the internal
data structure of the NX.
The RIS mapping can be configured both on-line and off-line:
Q In the on-line situation you can perform a RIS query to obtain the list of SPS
attributes sent out by the RIS.
Q In the off-line situation you can only obtain the list of SPS attributes by import-
ing a RIS data file. You can import/export the RIS mapping so that it can be eas-
ily cloned to another NX system.
If you select the RIS mapping tab, the system should retrieve the list of SPS
attributes sent out by the RIS.
Q Import an existing RIS mapping from file. In this case the imported RIS map-
ping will overwrite the current RIS mapping. You will be prompted to enter the
name and location of the file containing the RIS mapping.
Q You can let the NX Service and Configuration Tool create a default mapping for
the current set of SPS attributes; these will also overwrite the current RIS map-
ping. If needed, you can now manually customize the RIS mapping.

year, 6-12 year, 13-16 year, 17 +. Age groups are
preconfigured and not configurable by the user. Hence,
every NX system will have the same Age groups. Pediatric
Age groups (Baby, Child, and Adolescent) will only be
visible when the system has the pediatric license enabled.
Otherwise, only the (default) Adult Age group will be
visible.
Examination groups
Groups all exposures of the same category. Example: Upper
extremities, Chest, Skull, Lower extremities, Abdomen,
Spine.
Note: each Exposure type can only be part of one
Examination group.
Every Age group must have the same Examination groups
(e.g. each Age group should have a Chest Examination
group, if one Age group has this Examination group).
Exposure type for test images will be stored in a special
test images Examination group. The user will not be
allowed to create, edit or copy this Examination group. Also
the Exposure types within this Examination group cannot
be created, edited, copied or moved.
Exposure types
The Exposure type contains several initial values for the
added exposure, which can later be changed. The Exposure
type is the central element in the Examination Tree.
Apart from the structure in the GUI, Exposure types can also be grouped into
Exposure groups.
Q An Exposure group contains one or more Exposure types. It can be used to link a
set of Exposure types to protocol codes. For each Age group, the Exposure types
in the Exposure group can be linked to print profiles allowing automatic print-
ing of multiple Exposure types on a sheet in a preconfigured way.
An Exposure group can contain Exposure types of different Age groups. When
the Exposure group is added to an examination, only the Exposure types of
the correct Age group are added to the examination. The order of Exposure
types can be specified per Age group. The order will be used for adding the
exposures types to the thumbnails view.
An exposure group can also be added to the Add Image UI. This way, the
operator can manually add an Exposure Group to his patient.
Note: If it doesn’t contain any Exposure Types for the Age group of that patient, the
Exposure Group will not be visible during normal NX operation.
Q Processing parameters:
A set of processing parameters for an Exposure Type. Each Exposure Type has
its private set of processing parameters which consists of both Musica1 and
Musica2 settings. Dependent on the Musica2 license, the NX configuration
viewer will only show either the Musica1 or Musica2 processing parameters.
When Musica2 is enabled: the Musica2 package must be defined for each
exposure type: Examples: Pediatric, Thorax latitude, Genrad, …. Only
exposure types with a package assigned can be used in the Nx application.
Note: Note: quality assurance images are always processed with Musica1. The
processing parameters for these exposure types are not editable.
1 In the Examination Tree, select an Age group > Examination group to show the
available Exposure types for that particular Examination group.
You can configure the lists of Exposure types by creating, copying, renaming,
moving and deleting Exposure types.

appropriate checkbox. Full Leg Full Spine exposures have a number of extra
6 Click OK. The new Exposure type is added to the list in the selected
Examination group.
2 Edit the name of the Exposure type in the top field on the form on the right and
press Enter.
Note that the name of the Exposure type has changed:
1 Select an Exposure type in the tree view and click Delete in the Exposure type
form.
Using the NX Service and Configuration Tool, you can enter a number of
default settings for each individual Exposure type:
• Image processing,
• Exposure options,
• Collimation.
1 Open an Exposure group folder in the tree view pane and select an Exposure
type.
The detail pane will display the configuration parameters of the selected Exposure
type. See below for more info.
Examination group Name of the Examination group to which the Exposure type
belongs
Age group Name of the Age group to which the Exposure type belongs
Note: If the exposure concerns a Full Leg Full Spine exposure, both stitched
and partial exposures are created, edited and removed in the same manner
as for any other exposure. However, there are some specifics to be taken into
account:
Q The settings of a FLFS Stitched exposure are similar to the settings of a generic
exposure, with some exceptions.
Q The settings of a FLFS Partial exposure are similar to the settings of a generic
exposure. When creating a FLFS Stitched exposure using the copy functionality,
the settings are copied not only to the FLFS Stitched exposure, but also to the
partial exposure.
Q Regard the following differences when modifying a Full Leg Full Spine expo-
sure compared with an other exposure:
1 Within header of the FLFS Stitched and Partial exposure, radio buttons are
added to indicate which of the two exposures is to be displayed.
• When the FLFS Stitched radio button is displayed, the FLFS Stitched exposure and
its related settings are displayed.
• When the FLFS Partial radio button is displayed, the FLFS Partial exposures and its
related settings are displayed.
2 When the FLFS Stitched exposure is displayed, you can also assign protocol
codes. This functionality is not applicable when editing a FLFS Partial exposure.
3 Within the Exposure Settings Pane of the FLFS Stitched exposure, the cassette
orientation setting is not displayed.
4 Examination and Age Group are only relevant for displaying purposes in the
header of the Partial FLFS exposure.
5 The display name for the FLFS Stitched exposures in the tree reads as follows:
For a FLFS Stitched Image, the name is used. Within parenthesis the notion
“Stitched” image is displayed. Example: FLFS AP (Stitched).
Exposure Settings
View position The view position is restricted to the following values: AP,
PA, LL, RL.
The view position field cannot be empty.
Speed class 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 - 150 - 200 - 300 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1200
Anatomic region The Anatomic Region can be configured with the values
from CID 4009 (see DICOM PS 3.16). It is a more precise
way to specify the body part, and is used in DX images.
The NX Service and Configuration Tool will only allow
Anatomic Regions consistent with the already filled in Body
Part examined.
View code The view code should be consistent with the view position.
This means there are restrictions on which view code can be
configured, depending on which view position had been
configured.
This attribute can also be left empty in the examination
tree.
Automatically update When this option is enabled, the image laterality will
image laterality when change from “both” to “left” or “right”, as soon as you place
a left or right marker respectively. If the image laterality is
adding a marker not “both”, it will stay unaffected.
Automatically print Print Automation strategy for this Exposure type. Possible
image Values : DEFAULT, AUTOM_DISABLED. When DEFAULT:
print automation is defined at system level (see system
configuration specification).
Image Processing
Note: With the appropriate access rights you can change MUSICA settings in the
NX application and save them directly as the new default.
Printer Settings
Film Size Film Size which must be used when printed on the default
print profile. If = DEFAULT then the film size is linked to
the cassette size. 'DEFAULT' is not allowed for FLFS Stitched
image since a FLFS Stitched image does not come from one
cassette.
Printer Profile Printer profile that must be used when printed on the
default print profile
