Letter arrow cards

The letter arrow cards on the next few pages can help you practise
putting sounds together to make some words. Cut them out and use
them to show off your word-building skills now!

The blue cards are single letters. You can use them on their own to
create words, or use them in conjunction with the initial sounds and final
sounds to create a word.

The yellow cards are vowel clusters, which often appear in the middle
of a word.

The green cards are initial consonant clusters, letters commonly found
together at the start of words.

The red cards are final consonant clusters, letters commonly found
together at the end of words.

It is important to highlight to children that some of the green and red
cards have the same consonant clusters, like ‘sh’, as these letters can be
found at the beginning or end of a word. Other consonant clusters, such
as ‘xt’, are only found at the end of a word (for example, ‘next’).
