Task 2. A. Read the descriptions of the situations below. Choose the most suitable approach to be
successful while listening and responding.
1. A friend of yours is having problems in a continuing relationship.
2. Your boy/girlfriend is planning a trip to Sweden for a complicated surgery.
3. You’re going to come out to your orthodox family.
4. Some relatives of your close friends lost their house after the recent heavy shelling by
russian military forces.
5. Your friend expects their planned wedding to be called off.
6. You’re in a room with your supposed-to-be supervisor waiting for an appointment.
7. You can clearly hear a person sobbing in the photo booth next to you.
8. A senior lady in front of you looks upset and nearly crying.
9. Because of a power cut you are stuck in the lift with two petrified people.
10. You suddenly see your close school friend. Both of you are over excited with joy and
overwhelmed with emotions.
11. You enter the carriage compartment with three more people you will spend the rest of your
journey across Europe with.
12. You are going to introduce your boy/girlfriend to your parents. (They don’t like that type of
friend. They are also too sceptical about you having proper relationships.)

English language.
14. Your family insists on your early/prearranged marriage. You’re too old to remain single.

allergic to cat’s and dog’s fur.
B. Think over the strategy for communication to be effective in each case. Make up a draft
of a dialogue including a variety of means learnt during the module.
