21H043 – 980E-4/5 Oil Separation Seal Failure Field Campaign

If during the course of routine oil sampling it is determined the oil seal separating the hub bearing
chamber (gear oil) and brakes (hydraulic oil) has failed, indicated by a dilution of the gear oil with
hydraulic oil, the Field Campaign shall be implemented.

 Segment 1 – A3 (Fix as Fails) LH: Installation of Oil Sampling Plug as detailed in Parts & Service
News (PSN), AA19070. This will allow for the opportunity to efficiently monitor oil quality until
such time as the component can be removed for rebuild. Segment pays 2 man-hours.
 Segment 2 – A3 (Fix as Fails) RH: Installation of Oil Sampling Plug as detailed in Parts & Service
News (PSN), AA19070. This will allow for the opportunity to efficiently monitor oil quality until
such time as the component can be removed for rebuild. Segment pays 2 man-hours.
 Segment 3 – A3 (Fix as Fails) LH: Before 500 additional hours of operation, or at the first
opportunity, remove the Spindle/Hub/Brake assembly and rebuild with the improved seal kit as
detailed in Parts and Service News (PSN), BA20009A. The FC covers the cost of R&I, cost of parts
& labor to rebuild. Component hour limit, 13,999. Segment pays 60 man-hours for R&I, 64 man-
hours for Overhaul.
 Segment 4 – A3 (Fix as Fails) RH: Before 500 additional hours of operation, or at the first
opportunity, remove the Spindle/Hub/Brake assembly and rebuild with the improved seal kit as
detailed in Parts and Service News (PSN), BA20009A. The FC covers the cost of R&I, cost of parts
& labor to rebuild. Component hour limit, 13,999. Segment pays 60 man-hours for R&I, 64 man-
hours for Overhaul.
