1. Using the data (Physics test scores, treat the data as population) in pg 107 (ASL 1 reference
book), illustrate the following:

B. Normal Curve
2. Answer the following questions. (3pts each)

A. What shape can you draw if you connect the midpoint (middle value) in each bar in the
histogram? Why do you think it follows such a shape?
Connecting the midpoints of bars in a histogram creates a smooth curve called a
frequency polygon. This shape often resembles a normal distribution, reflecting a balanced and
symmetric spread of data.

B. What is a normal distribution?

A normal distribution refers to the probability distribution that is symmetric about the
mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the
mean.

C. How does normal distribution used to analyze and interpret assessment results?
In a normal distribution, data is symmetrically distributed with no skew. When plotted on
a graph, the data follows a bell shape, with most values clustering around a central region and
tapering off as they go further away from the center. It is the most important probability
distribution in statistics because it accurately describes the distribution of values for many
natural phenomena.

3. Solve the following. (Show your solutions).

μ = 32.73

σ = 9.649
● What is the proportion of students who scored less than 30 in the exam?

P(X < 30) = ?

P(Z < - 0.283) = 0.1103

● What is the proportion of students who scored between 30 and 45?

P(30 < x < 45) = ?

P(Z < 1.272) = 0.398
