Fondazione Teatro Amilcare Ponchielli and Associazione Musicale Giovanni Bottesini announce the first
edition of the International Baroque Singing Competition "CMC - Cavalli Monteverdi Competition" under
the direction of Andrea Cigni and Francesco Daniel Donati de' Conti.
The Competition will be held in Crema and Cremona from October 28 to November 1, 2023.
Selection Committee
The Jury will be composed by artistic directors and casting managers from leading opera houses and festivals,
as well as conductors who are specialists in the repertoire.
The composition of the Jury will be published on the Competition's Social Media and on the websites of Teatro
Ponchielli and Associazione Bottesini.
Prizes
The Competition is divided into Section A (competition for roles) and Section B (Special Prize "Francesco
Cavalli – Camera di Commercio di Cremona").
SECTION A - Competition for Roles
Candidates are competing for roles in Claudio Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo, scheduled to be performed in the
Monteverdi Festival 2024.
The Jury reserves the right not to award all the roles in the competition
SECTION B - Special Prize "Francesco Cavalli – Camera di Commercio di Cremona"
Applicants compete to win the "Francesco Cavalli - Chamber of Commerce of Cremona" special prize of €
5000.
Candidates may choose to enter both sections or only one of them. This choice must be expressed at the
time of registration.
Other scholarships may be awarded thanks to the valuable support of Sponsors. Cash prizes and scholarships
will be settled by bank transfer by the organization within 60 days after the end of the Competition. Any
transaction fees required by the contestant's bank of support will be borne by the contestant.
Admission requirements
The competition is open to Baroque music singers of all vocal registers and nationalities. Contestants must be
between the ages of 18 and 35, and more specifically be born between November 2, 1987 and October 27,
2005.

Enrollment modalities
Entries must be received by noon on Monday, September 4, 2023. Each candidate must email the following
documents to the Competition Secretariat (info@cmcompetition.it):
• registration form (to be completed and returned in Word format) with specific indication of the
Section(s) for which you intend to register;
• photocopy of ID card or passport;
• a recent photograph;
• a brief curriculum vitae (in Italian or English);
• 2 recent videos showing the performance of two opera arias from the Baroque or Late Baroque
repertoire. Videos must necessarily be uploaded to YouTube (no Wetransfer);
• list of the four arias to be presented, chosen according to the criteria of the Competition's Musiacle
Program (Baroque or Late Baroque repertoire is defined as that ranging from Monteverdi to Händel);
• the scan of the receipt of the payment of € 20.00 to validate the registration for the preselections.

All of the above documentation must be received scanned via electronic mail at info@cmcompetition.it no
later than September 4, 2023.
The pre-selections will be conducted by the competition management.
The secretariat will notify the result of the pre-selections by September 18 via email to all candidates and will
also publish the list on its Social pages (Facebook and Instagram).
The admitted candidates will have 7 days after the communication to send to the secretariat the copy of all
the musical material submitted for competition and the copy of the payment by bank transfer of euro 80.00
(eighty) as registration fee. The reason for payment must be marked "CMC 2023 registration fee" followed by
the candidate's first and last name. In case you wish to pay by PayPal, the payment must be 84.00 (eighty-
four) euros and can be made by clicking the DONATION button found on the homepage of the website

Failure to pay within the above terms will result in the exclusion of the candidate from the Competition.

Competition Program
All arias in each stage of the competition must be performed from memory.
The organization provides two accompanying harpsichordists for all singers, and it will not be possible to be
accompanied by one's personal harpsichordist.
Rehearsal times will be communicated directly by the organization.
Eligible candidates must send the scores of their chosen arias in PDF format to the competition secretariat
(info@cmcompetition.it) by September 25, 2023. In addition, candidates should bring all sheet music for
voice and harpsichord of the pieces indicated in the submitted program to the harpsichordist at the time of
the auditions. The Competition organization will provide candidates with musical material from the operas
Monteverdi's L'Orfeo and Cavalli's Il Giasone.

Schedule of the Week
The Competition will be organized as follows:
• First round: Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 (morning and afternoon) in Crema at the
Sala Bottesini of the Teatro San Domenico;
• Concert by the Bottesini Association, with announcement of candidates admitted to the semifinals:
Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Pietro da Cemmo Hall of the Civic Museum of Crema and the Cremasque. All
contestants must be present;
• Semifinal: Monday, Oct. 30 at Teatro Ponchielli;

• Rehearsals with the Orchestra Monteverdi Festival Cremona Antiqua, conducted by Maestro Antonio
Greco: Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Teatro Ponchielli (time to be determined);
• Rehearsal and Final: Wednesday, November 1 (time to be confirmed) at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona.
At the end of the finals, the judges will proceed to voting and the winners will be announced the
same evening.
SECTION A – Competition for Roles
• First round: candidates must perform an aria of their own choice from among the four indicated
during registration; if deemed necessary, the Jury reserves the right to request the performance of
a second aria from among those indicated during registration;
• Semifinals: candidates must perform an aria chosen by the Jury from among the four indicated in
the entry. The aria already performed during the first will not be requested
• Final: candidates must perform the aria indicated for the role for which they wish to compete,
chosen from the Arias indicated in the Musical Program - Section A.
SECTION B - Special Prize “Francesco Cavalli– Camera di Commercio di Cremona”

• Finals: candidates must perform the aria chosen from the Imposed Arias in the Musical Program -
Section B.

Final dispositions
Candidates waive any remuneration and give permission free of charge for any recordings or broadcasts
made by public or private radio and television organizations. In addition, candidates must make themselves
available for any concerts scheduled as a result of the competition.
It is up to the jury to make decisions for anything not stipulated in the regulations.

All documentation must be completed, signed, and sent to the Associazione Bottesini via email to:
info@cmcompetition.it
1) A scanned copy of the receipt showing the payment of € 20 by bank transfer as a pre-selection fee.
The entrant must pay any conversion costs. Payment of this fee will validate the entry, and may be
conducted by means of a bank transfer to the current account of the Associazione Musicale Giovanni
Bottesini – Banco BPM, Crema headquarters – IBAN: IT91S0503456841000000000612 - SWIFT/BIC:
BAPPIT22, indicating “Quota preselezione CMC 2023” (pre-selection fee for CMC 2023), followed by
the name and surname of the candidate. If you prefer to pay via Paypal the fee is 21,00 euro and you
can do it from the link DONATE NOW in the homepage of the website www.associazionebottesini.com
2) Links to two YouTube videos of your latest opera performances from the Baroque or Late Baroque
repertoire (no WeTransfer);
3) A photocopy of ID card or passport;
4) Short curriculum vitae – CV;
5) A recent photograph;
6) enrolment form and music program (document attached) TO BE FILLED OUT ONLY IN WORD. Forms
completed and returned in other formats will not be considered.
Please remember that the musical program once submitted cannot be changed.
The deadline for registration for pre-selections and receipt of this documentation is at noon on
04/09/2023.
SECOND STEP
only applicable to those who pass the pre-selection

Giovanni Bottesini Musical Association deals with personal data for the execution of the relationship, of which
