ELECTRONICS 2 (PHYS4118) TURTORIALS PART 1

1. Consider the transistor switching circuit below. Given that V BB=5V and RB=1MΩ, calculate IB.

2.

a) Calculate the LED current in the figure above.

b) The circuit above is to be mass produced. The LED can have a voltage drop between anywhere from
1.5V to 2.5V. draw the DC load lines and Q points for low and high LED voltage.
3. Calculate the saturation value of the collector current in the figure below. Then calculate the collector
current for these two values of  dc :100 and 300. Hence, draw a dc load line that summaries your

calculations showing clearly the corresponding Q points.

4. The circuit below has a stiff voltage divider. Draw the dc load line and show the Q point.

5.

Above is a two-stage amplifier. What are the dc emitter voltages for each stage?
6. A dc-coupled oscilloscope displays the total signal with its dc and ac components. The figure below shows
the voltages at the base, emitter, and collector of a grounded-emitter amplifier. Explain what these
voltages represent. (Hints: in your explanation, verify the voltages indicated via calculations.)
