Webinar on Inclusive Risk Reduction Management

Objectives:

The objectives or the goals of the webinar Inclusive Risk Reduction Management is to

improve the Risk Reduction Management programs implemented to broaden the scopes and

improve the welfare of the people under it.

Introduction:

Our country, Philippines, is an archipelagic country. It means we are composed of

thousands of islands. We are also facing the Pacific Ocean, making us prone to typhoons or

storms. We are also under the Pacific Ring of Fire which answers why we have many active

volcanoes currently. Because of those vulnerabilities, actions and programs are always active

and being assessed from time to time. As the world changes, our laws also change along with it.

This promotes equality especially for those with disabilities.

Learnings from the Topic:

I learned that former President Cory Aquino first implemented the first week of July as

Natural Disaster Consciousness Week on July 29, 1988. The Natural Disaster Consciousness

Week was later developed into Natural Disaster Consciousness Month under Estrada

Administration. Finally, it became Natural Disaster Resilience Month which is issued by President

Rodrigo Duterte. It is changed to resilience because awareness is not enough to combat

calamities. What we need is proper plans to mitigate or prevent it. I learned that earthquakes are

also included in the Pacific Ring of Fire and there are active faults here in our country. I also
learned that most of the people with disabilities and elderlies are not participating to the programs

implemented to prevent serious damages to the country. I learned that nowadays, there are

countries that include LGBTQIA+ people to their mitigation or risk reduction plans. Finally, I

learned that no matter what calamities we are facing, it is in our hands on whether these disasters

will greatly affect us or not.

Summary and Conclusion:

The Disaster Risk Reduction Management is always revised to adapt the modern society

and to enlarge or broaden its scopes. There are countries that also included third genders or the

LGBTQIA+ in their Risk Reduction Plans. People with disabilities and elderlies are mostly ignored

in these plans, they also could not participate in the said programs. The damages we’re receiving

were always doubled or amplified by our reckless actions. The Programs included in the webinar

were mostly pertains about thee modern country and on how we adapt to it.
