INTRODUCTION

According to Kurtus (2012), "Some causes are subjects are too difficult, inappropriate

attitude, the teacher can’t explain the lesson properly, poor attitude, and so on.”

Many students are struggling in their academic performances. Having a high grades may

cause to a students to move into another grade level, so having high grades is a must. There are

many causes why the students struggle in their subject. It maybe because of the teacher,

schoolmates, family, or maybe because of the student himself.

Those factors can affect the interest of a student to study. If the teacher is good in

teaching, this adds interest and motivation to the student to study well and listen to the lesson and

get high scores in quiz or exam. However, if a student experiences difficulties in understanding

the lesson and afraid to ask, it may cause low scores because of wrong interpretation of the

lesson.

The study is important for the student to be aware for the reasons why students struggle

academically. This may help the readers identify the factors that causes them to have failed

grades. It opens the mind of the reader on how to prevent failed grades and how get passed

grades.

The researcher wants to know what are the possible distractions and hindrances of

students that may cause them to got a low grades, so that the researchers may easily find out

what are the possible solution to these kinds of problems. This study will tell the readers the

possible solution on how to prevent low grades and the students that is struggling in their

academic performances may follow this solutions.


STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Now, many students struggles academically. Some of the student talk with the teachers

for the remedial examination and ask if there is a way to pass the subject. Also, some students do

not make an effort to pass their subjects as a result the student is forced for drop out. The study

will have a good result for the failing students and the study may help them to motivate and

improve themselves to study hard and focus on their studies. There are possible reasons students

fail some of these problems are the difficulties in subjects, personal problems and so on.

There are possible ways to avoid from failing one of these ways is time management, if

the student can handle their own time they will be able to do their work on time, the student

should finish their work before going anywhere or doing nonsense things that spend their time,

so that can passed their work before the given deadline. Also, being absent is not a good habit of

a student this is also the reason why the students struggles in their academics because of missed

lessons, topics, activities and task, the student must go to the school during school days so the

student can follow the lessons and topic taught by the teacher.

Objectives of the study

 To identify the difficulties in academics that students face which causes them on getting a

low grades in school

 To identify the possible ways to help students avoid from getting failed grades in their

subjects
 To know why students in Elim are struggling academically that’s why the researcher will

interview some senior high school students in Elim that experience a struggle on their

academics.

Significance of the Study

The study will have a good result for the failing students and the study may help them to

motivate and improve themselves to study hard and focus on their studies

It is also important to teachers to be aware of what must an educator's characteristics are,

It helps the readers to become more efficient for helping the learners in achieving the expected

grades.

 To the School administrators

This study must know the problems and reasons of students. So that the administrators

and teachers must pay more attention to this kinds of students. The study gives an idea

about the struggles of some students that face inside the school.

 To the Family

The study is significant to family to know what they need to do to their children when

their children is suffering the struggles in school. So the parents may able to help the

students to get more inspired of studying hard. Researchers want to bring awareness to

the parents to monitor their children if it has a problem on their studies.

 To the Teachers

Teachers must know what is the problem and why some students are failing or struggling

academically .The researchers want to give idea to the teacher to focus on the students

that has a struggle academically.


 To the Students

The study is significance to students, to know what they need to do when they have a

struggle on their academics. Researchers want to teach students that has struggling academically

what they need to do in this problem.

This study is significance to the future researchers for having a backgrounds or

experiences and to know what are the basic studies and requirements when studying about this

kind of problems. Also, to give idea to the future researchers that may widen their knowledge on

how to identify the problems and difficulties of students that causes them to fail.

Scope and Limitations

This study will focus on Grade 12 students on Elim School for Values & Excellence S.Y

2019-2020 on identifying the cause of failing students and to decrease the numbers of the

students that is struggling on their academic performances. Failing student should have lower

than 75 average score to their current 1st and 2nd quarter.


Chapter 3

Methodology

This chapter includes the conceptual framework, operational definition of terms, research

design, locale and participants of the study, sampling, and data gathering, instrumental and data

of analysis.

Conceptual Framework

The failed students are the main point of the study and to know the things that may help

them to improve their academic skills.

Failing To focus on Getting high


Students their study grades

The study is focused on Grade 12 students on Elim School for Values and Excellence

who feel pressure on their academics that may cause them to fail, if the student started to focus

on their study it will result on getting high grades on their subjects. The researcher wants to

know the cause of failing students and to know how to decrease the students who have a

struggles in their academic performances. The researchers may help them and motivate them to

study hard and it will result of preventing students to get failed grades.

Operational Definition of Terms

1. Grade 12 students- the respondents of the study that will be interviewed for data.

2. Elim School for Values and Excellence- The location where the study is conducted.

3. Experiences- the reasons why the students fail in their study.


Research Design
The non-experimental research design is appropriate for this study because it attempted to

determine the main cause of failing students especially important in studying the effect of

parental expectation on students academic performance. Additionally, the design is based on

existing data, which enabled creativity with regard to shaping the analysis to evaluate the

different reasons that may lead the students to fail. The researchers will make a study to know

the main reasons why the students are failing on their study.

Local and Participants of the Study

This study will be conducted in Elim School for Values and Excellence the former name

was Elim Science Academy, established in the year 2000, by God's grace, through the vision,

efforts and determination of Mr. & Ms. Cawili. It was certified as a private, non-sectarian, non-

profit educational institution by the Securities and Exchange Commission last November 23,

2000 with SEC Reg. No. A20017739. The initial operation was on June 2001, in a reformed and

renovated warehouse building situated at Escobar St., San Jose City, where courses offered were

Nursery, Kindergarten, Preparatory and Grades 1 to 4. Initial number of enrollees then was more

than 70 students. The people keep moving in the school then have deepened their desire not just

to teach academically, but to minister to the youth as their services to God. The school was

prepared by its mission and vision, and to share the word of God to the students as the day

passed by the community of Elim is bigger and bigger the school was blessed again the Lot of it

is become wider. By faith and sacrifices of Mr. & Ms. Cawili they built a school to achieve and

aim to serve God and the people with their children.
