Exercise 1:

A mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is reacted with hydrogen gas
(H2) to produce carbon monoxide (CO) and ammonia (NH3). The following chemical equation
represents the reaction:

CO2 + NO2 + H2 → CO + NH3 + H2O

1. Balance the above equation

Given the following initial mole amounts of the reactants:

CO2: 0.50 mol; NO2: 0.75 mol and H2: 1.50 mol
Determine the following:

2. The limiting reactant

3. The masse of CO formed
4. The excess reactant and the number of mole of excess reactant remaining after the
reaction is complete

Exercise 2:

1. Balance the following chemical equation:

Al + O2 → Al2O3

1.0 moles of Al react with 3.0 moles of O2.

Given: M(Al) = 27g/mol; M(O)=16g/mol

2. Determine the mole ratio of aluminum (Al) to oxygen (O2) in the balanced equation.
3. Determine which reactant is the limiting reactant and which reactant is the excess
reactant
4. Determine the mass of Al2O3 formed.
5. Determine the mass of the excess remaining at the end of the experiment.

Exercise 3:

46.3g of NaCrO2 reacted with 88.2 g of NaBrO4 and 32.5 g of NaOH as shown in the following
equation.

Given: M(Na)= 23g/mol ; M(O)=16g; M(H)=1g/mol; M(Cr)=52g/mol; M(Br)=80g/mol

NaCrO2 + NaBrO4 + NaOH→ NaBrO3 + Na2CrO4 + H2O

1. Balance the equation:

2. Determine whether the following equation is at stoichiometry or not.
3. Determine the mass of NaBrO3 formed.
