RESEARCH PROPOSAL!

Changing the Patterns of Masculine Ideals because of Korean Median!

In the recent years Korean Pop Culture has taken a rise globally. One of the reasons I believe is
the way they portray men and show that certain traits that were once considered feminine as masculine
traits as well.

This point however is a controversial one to and many people mistake this view of masculinity
by calling it gay. As a result, I want to know what the young adults who are majorly exposed to this
perspective through music and TV shows perceive or come to understand the modern definition of
masculinity. However, I believe that many will incline to the traditional definition of masculinity.

Now to prove my hypothesis, I will be taking surveys form individuals present on the university
campus, as my target demographic are young adults (ranging from age 18-23). The surveys will divide,
individuals into two groups based on whether they have watched any of the three shows from either
side and agree with the message these shows present. To further reduce bias error questions will be
generated from random episodes of said shows. After the surveys are complete results will be
statistically analysed which will either prove or disprove my hypothesis. The following shows after
careful selection will be representing both “Traditional Masculinity and its New definition”. These shows
include, “Sex Education”, “Thirteen Reasons Why?”, “Euphoria” for American and “Fairy Weight Lifting
Kim Bok Ju”, “Never the Less”, and “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” respectively.
