• Please type out the words you hear as they would be spelled in a dictionary.
• Words should be written using Australian English spelling. Australian English generally follows the
conventions of British English rather than American English. It may useful to refer to the common
differences between American and British English via the following links:

• No abbreviations should be used, i.e. words should be spelt out in full.
• Capital letters, upper case characters and sentence-level punctuation (i.e. full stops, commas, etc) should
not be used. For example, this would be a complete transcription:
good morning how are you
• Punctuation should not be used, except for apostrophes and hyphens which should be used where they are
necessary for the correct and grammatical spelling of a word, such as in contractions and the possessive
case:
i can't do that
john's sandwich
Important: Your test should be typed using the normal alphabet only. If you need to copy/paste characters into the
text box, make sure that they are copied only from a plain text editor (e.g., Notepad) in order to avoid formatting
problems. (Formatting problems will result in an error message and will not save your transcription.)
