PROTOTYPING
STRATEGY

Definition, Types, Importance, Advantages and disadvantages

WHAT IS A PROTOTYPE?

A prototype is a simple experimental model of a proposed

solution used to test or validate ideas of its conceptualization
quickly and cheaply, so that the designer/s involved can make
refinements or changes in direction.
A limited representation of a design that allows users to
interact with it and to explore its suitability
Allows stakeholders to interact with the envisioned product,
gain some experience of using and explore imagined uses
Aim is to have something that can be tested with real users.
PROTOTYPING STRATEGY

A set of decisions that dictate what actions will be taken to accomplish

the development of the prototype(s). Prototyping strategies include a
variety of different options.

Prototypes serve numerous purposes both from a business and an

engineering standpoint. Businesses use prototypes to gather detailed
customer feedback on issues like aesthetics, ergonomics, and theme, as
well as for marketing research and cost analysis. Prototyping is used by
engineers to provide manufacturing and assembly data, to investigate
system integration issues and to develop analysis and testing strategies.
TWO MAIN Low-fidelity Prototyping

TYPES OF involves the use of basic models or examples of the

product being tested.
PROTOTYPING
a quick, simple way to show your idea — often a sketch,
paper, or click-through visualization

TYPES OF a representation of the interface created digitally using

some software tools. It closely resembles the end
PROTOTYPING product in terms of the look and feel of using it.

They may have more design elements or interactivity,

and can be used for more complex testing.

HOW TO PROTOTYPE

Build a prototype of the basic functionality, especially the interface.

Test the prototype, which will uncover design errors.
Correct the errors.
Repeat until you have a clean design.

Prototyping is
- a major tool for improving usability
- heavily used in industry
MAIN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD USE PROTOTYPING
IN YOUR STARTUP

Validate your idea one more time

Find the best design and tech solutions

Test with real users

Avoid costly mistakes

Test your team collaboration and communication

ADVANTAGES OF
PROTOTYPING

Evaluating technical feasibility

Presenting ideas to customers

Allowing iterations at lower cost

Providing focused feedback

Simulating the future products

DISADVANTAGES OF
PROTOTYPING

Time-consuming
Misconception regarding the arrival of the final product
Prototyping may encourage excessive change
requests.
Sometimes customers might not be willing to
participate within the iteration cycle for the longer time
duration.
Poor documentation because the wants of the
customers are changing.
