LAY-OUTING

DELIVERY ROOM
INSTRUMENTS
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES IN
PERFORMING ACTUAL
DELIVERIES
To provide encouragement and support
to the woman.
To support the woman's pain
management.
To prepare the place of birth.
To assess the fetal heart sounds and the
labor progress.
EQUIPMENT
PRIMI PARA
1 MAYO STRAIGHT - use to cut the umbilical cord
1 MAYO CURVE- use to cut the perineum
1 KELLY CLAMP (curve) –use to clamp the cord toward the baby.
1 KELLY CLAMP ( straight ) – use to clamp the cord toward the placenta.

MULTI PARA
1 MAYO STRAIGHT- use to cut the umbilical cord
1 KELLY CLAMP (curve) –use to clamp the cord toward the baby.
1 KELLY CLAMP ( straight ) – use to clamp the cord toward the placenta.

Sterile gauze
Sterile towel
Pair of gloves
Mayo Table
Kidney Basin

(if there is episiotomy)
1 needle holder- use to hold the needle
- tissue forceps - use to hold the skin for suturing
1 suture (chromic 2-0)
1 syringe (10 cc with g23 needle)
Xylocaine 2% ( 10 cc) used as anesthesia during
episiorrhaphy
EPISIOTOMY
PROCEDURE

1. DO HANDWASHING - to prevent
spread of microorganisms
2. USE PICK-UP FORCEPS TO UNWRAP
STERILIZED HYPO TOWEL - to
maintain sterility
PROCEDURE

3. OPEN AND SPREAD THE HYPO


TOWEL ON THE TRAY EXPOSING THE
STERILE PART - use to lay materials
needed during delivery
PROCEDURE

4. UNWARP AUTOCLAVE
INSTRUMENTS INTO THE TRAY - to
expose the sterilized equipment
PROCEDURE

5. LAY INSTRUMENTS IN LINEAR


POSITION - for easy accessibility
PROCEDURE

6. AFTERCARE THE INSTRUMENTS


a. wash used instruments and soak to
cidex

CIDEX - is used to disinfect instruments


DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
OF ASSIST
Transfer the client in the delivery room if cervix is fully dilated
and if client is primigravida. In multigravida, transfer if the client is
on 8cm dilation
Rationale: to prevent precipitate labor
Assist client in the delivery room
Rationale: to promote safety of the patient
Place mother in semi-upright position
Rationale: to provide comfort and to facilitate easy delivery
Ensure the privacy of the mother
Rationale: to reduce the embarassment and anxiety
Place deflated kelly pad under the client’s buttocks and direct
the tip to a pail
Rationale: to maintain the area clean and dry
Raise both legs on stirrups
Rationale: to promote safety in
bearing down
Drape the legs exposing only the
genital area
Rationale: to prevent the spread of
microorganism causing infection
