PROGRAMME MODULES

5 weeks | Online and Live Virtual

Module 1 - Global Strategy in a New Era of (De-) Globalisation

The programme commences with an introduction to the fundamentals of globalisation, its current status
and the benefits it offers. You will examine six key considerations in global strategy, from globalisation
drivers to sustainability, using the GOLMIS framework. In addition, you will evaluate the factors that propel
industry globalisation to become familiar with the ever-changing global landscape.

Module 2 - Where to Compete: Home Base Advantages and Foreign Location Choices

The second module explores the dynamics of home and foreign location choices in the context of global
business strategy. Multiple real-world examples are used to demonstrate the power of product clusters and
the emergence of engineered clusters in locations such as Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. This
module also introduces the comprehensive CAGE framework to understand cultural, administrative,
geographic and economic distances and overcome the liability of foreignness.

Module 3 - Why, How and When: Foreign Direct Investment Motives, Entry Modes
and Sequence of Internationalisation

This module covers the intricate aspects of foreign direct investment, entry modes and internationalisation.
You will learn what motivates organisations to expand operations globally and connect these motivations
with entry strategies. Next, you will compare the growth trajectories of organisations headquartered in
emerging markets to those in developed countries.

Module 4 - Global Open Innovation

In this module, you will deep dive into the concept of global open innovation for creating metanational
advantage. The module content focuses on leveraging the collective knowledge of organisations from
around the world to solve business problems and bring new products to the market, making it of paramount
importance in the context of global strategy and globalisation.

Module 5 - Integrating Innovation and Sustainability Globally

The programme concludes by exploring how to integrate innovation and sustainability at a global level. It

MEET THE PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
The Rethinking Global Strategy – Online programme is developed and taught by award-winning INSEAD faculty
member and published thought leader Felipe Monteiro, Senior Affiliate Professor of Strategy and Academic
Director of the Global Talent Competitiveness Index. Professor Monteiro is widely acclaimed for his teaching,
having received the INSEAD Deans’ Commendation for Excellence in MBA Teaching eight times and the “Goes
Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” Teaching Award for educational excellence in the MBA core curriculum at
The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, for four consecutive years.

Professor Monteiro’s research focuses on global open innovation and the role of boundary spanners. It appears
in top journals including Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy and Journal of
International Business Studies. Professor Monteiro is the recipient of distinguished awards from the Academy of
Management, the Academy of International Business and the Strategic Management Society. He is also the
author of several award-winning case studies and the co-author of a recent book, Global Strategic Management,
