DAILY LESSON LOG

S.Y. 2019-2020

School KIBAWE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Grade Level GRADE 12 STEM

Teacher RAULEMAR CONCI P. ARIBAL Learning Area GENERAL CHEMISTRY 2
Time & M-T-W-F Quarter (SECOND SEMESTER)
Dates FEBRUARY 3-7, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
1. Spontaneous change, entropy, and free
energy.

B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to find patterns and make
predictions on heat and energy involved in chemical
reactions.

1. Learning Competencies/Objectives The learners:

- Explain how the Greeks knew that the Earth is
spherical.
(STEM_GC11CT-Iva-b-140)
1. Predict the spontaneity of a process based on
entropy.
2. Determine whether entropy increases or
decreases if the following are changed:
temperature, phase, number of particles.
(STEM_GC11CT-IVa-b-141)
3. Explain the second law of thermodynamics
and its significance
(STEM_GC11CT-IVa-b-142)

II. CONTENT spontaneous change, entropy, and free energy

III. LEARING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Teaching Guide Generaal Chemisry 2, p. 409-412
2. Learner’s Materials pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional materials from Learning
Resource (LR) portal

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Before the lesson Recall from previous lessons.
1. ELICIT Start with a prayer
Set the room into a conducive to learning
environment.

Now, let’s have the Management of Learning

Group (MOL group) of today for the review of
the assignments given to you yesterday.

Activity 1: Role Play

Now, I want to group you into 3 groups. For 5
minutes, each group must be able to create a
short role play (3 minutes) on the following
situations/scenarios below:
Group 1 – riding in a bus in a speeding up
motion in a straight line
Group 2 – riding in a bus in a slowing down
motion straight line.
Group 3 – riding in a bus where changing a
direction.

2. ENGAGE After the role play, ask the 3 rd group to tell

something on what they observe from the 1st
group presentation, 2nd group to tell something
on what they observe from the 3rd group
presentation, and 1st group to tell something
on what they observe from the 2nd group.
The teacher will process the answers based
on the observations that each group had made
and relate it to the present topic of the day
which is “SPONTANEOUS PROCESSES:
Characteristics of Spontaneous Processes”

B. Lesson Proper The teacher will present a video clip related to

1. EXPLORE spontaneous process for the students to watch
but before the video clip, the teacher must give
a guide questions for the students to focus in
connection with the topic.

2. EXPLAIN Based on the video, the teacher will select

randomly and ask 3 learners on what they
observe from the video and process.
The teacher will present a powerpoint
presentation regarding the topic.

3. After the lesson Activity 2: Think-Pair-Share (5 minutes)

1. ELABORATE Based on the learning that had been
discussed, the teacher will let the learner find
a pair/partner. Then S/He will give this
question for the learners to answer and
discussed.
1. What can you say about the pictures
shown? Compare each pair and tell
which one is more spontaneous than
the other?

Vs.

2. How does spontaneity apply to

chemical reactions?
Examples of Reactions
Combustion of methane
CH4 + 2O2 —> 6CO2 + 2H2O ΔHo =
- 890.4 kJ/mol

After 5 minutes, call 2 pairs of learner

randomly who can share their answers and
discussions.

2. EVALUATE After the think and pair activity, let the student
write down their names per pair and write
down also in a ¼ sheet of paper their answer
and what have they shared.
3. EXTEND Have an advance reading about ENTROPY
