I’m a chess club chairman and today I want to inspire you to play chess.

Are you ready?………………….

People have been playing chess for more than 1500 years. This game was
invented in India in the 6th century, its earliest known as chaturanga.

Did you know?

Elon Musk, the owner of electric car maker Tesla & rocket producer Space X ,
also played chess when he was a kid. Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, is
not only a tech genius but also enjoys playing chess to some extent. Tobey
Maguire, famous for playing Spider-Man in movies, is a passionate chess lover.
He played the main role in a chess movie called “Pawn Sacrifice,” which tells the
story of the greatest US chess player, Bobby Fischer.

The first reason I want you to play chess is, it is developing our memory. We can
improve and enhance our memory and can recall anything that we’ve forgotten
before. It also helps us to become better planners in the future. For example,
we can take decisions quickly as fast as a cheetah. In one experiment
researchers compared the recall ability of expert chess players to that of
people with no chess-playing experience. They found that the chess players
were significantly better at recalling lists of words they’d heard than people
who had never played chess. You studied well for the exam but when you enter
the exam hall you can’t recall what you read right?

In addition, chess can elevate our creativity. For example, a school in India
tested the creative thinking skills of two groups of students. One group was
trained in chess playing, and the other was not. The tests asked students to
come up with alternate uses for common items and to interpret patterns and
meaning in abstract forms. Students who played chess scored higher on tests.
Researchers concluded that chess increased the students’ ability to exercise
divergent and creative thinking. Did you had been in this situation? You made an
assignment really good but you still did not get an A Plus. Right? Yeah that’s why
playing chess is important to you my dear.

Furthermore, playing chess is filling our free time. For your kind information, a
village in India with a population of 6000 was getting flushed as everyone was
under the influence of alcohol because they were feeling bored in their free
time. But with time the consumption of alcohol declined and chess was adopted.
They made it as their free time activity. Pretty interesting right?
