? The power supply PC346.1 provides all the power sources needed by the different boards: it generates +12V, +5V,
+3.3V DC; it provides the 380 DC Volts for the ballast circuit as well.
? The power supply is composed by two different sections: power factor corrector and dc-dc switch mode converter.
Power factor
? The power factor corrector maintains the cos? as close as possible to ; it provides the stabilised 380DC Volts, to the
switching section, indifferent to the main supply voltage, that can be in the range between 90-270 Volts, 40-60Hz.
? After the first noise filter the power is rectified and re-filtered by a “?” circuit.
? Then it is modulated by IC101 through T101.
? During the “start up” sequence, IC101 is supplied through R102 and then through PFT101.
? IC101 received the feed back regarding its output (380V) from P101 that is used to adjust the output (see chapter
5.1). According to the feed back, IC101 modulates T101 that, using the charging and discharging of PFT101, keeps
the output at the constant value of 380DC Volts.
? The switching section receives the 380DC Volts from the power factor and transforms it into the three needed values:
+12, +5 and +3.3.
? IC201 receives the 380DC Volts from the output of T101 and drives T201 in order to modulate the power to TR201.
? The output of TR201, 12DC Volts, is the feed back going to IC201, through IC202, used for modulating its output. A
potentiometer P301 is used to adjust the 12DC Volts (see chapter 5.1).
? TR201 supplies two “Step-down” sections: IC301, +5DC Volts, IC302, +3.3 DC Volts.
? The three outputs, +12, +5,+3.3, are sent to CN5, and then to Formatter board.
? On power supply there are two control sections: temperature control and power control.
? Temperature is detected by NTC102, located on heat sink; in case of temperature higher than 90°C the IC102A
switches and the OVERTEMP signal, on pin 8 CN5, goes on low level.
? The power control is made by three comparators IC304A, IC304A, IC303A. In case one of the three powers is
missing, the relative comparator switches and the signal PWRG goes on low level.
? Both control signals go to the Microprocessor located on Formatter board; in case one of these is in low level,
protection situation, the Microprocessor switches the unit in stand by mode.
? One green LED, DL301 located under the ground connection CN03, indicates the correct functioning of the power
supply.

SERVICE MANUAL HT300
? The PC349 Input board manages all the input signals, including the signals coming from the remote box, and sends
them to PC343 Formatter board (see chapter 3.4); it contains the rear infrared sensor, the local keyboard, two
motorised screen power sources with short circuit detection and the temperature sensor controller.
? On the Remote box plug CN101, type (Enhanced Video Cable ENV), besides the input signals, the I2C bus, 12 and 5
volts power supplies, two screen control commands and RS232 connections are present.
? The input signals can be grouped into two families: Narrow Band signal (NB) and Wide Band signals (WB),
according to the following:
Narr o w Ba n d S ig nals
Wide Ba n d S ig nals :
S IGNA LS MA NA G EM EN T
Narr o w Ba n d S ig nals
? The CVBS signals can be input from CN104, from the remote box and from the tuner (if
mounted).
From CN104 it goes to the video switcher IC107, then to IC109 and then to Formatter board through CN102 (see
block diagram).
From CN101, Remote box input plug, it goes through IC102 (enabled by IC103) and goes to video switcher
IC109 and then to Formatter board through CN102.
From tuner (if installed) the signal goes to IC107, IC109 and then to Formatter board through CN102.
? RGB and Y Cr Cb signals are managed in two different ways according to the Horizontal frequency.
16KHz from CN114-115-116-117 are sent to the Video buffer IC116, then to video switcher IC109 and then to
Formatter board through CN102 NB bus.
16KHx from CN101, Remote box input plug, it goes through IC102 (enabled by IC103) and goes to video
switcher IC109 and then to Formatter board through CN102.
32KHz RGB from CN114-115-116-117 are sent to the video switcher IC116, then to the video buffer IC115
(enabled by IC103) and then to the formatter board through CN102.
32KHz Y Cr Cb are transformed into RGB format by T104?T106, then to the video buffer T115 and then to the
formatter board through CN102.
? SVHS can be input from the DIN plug and from the remote box.
From the DIN plug CN11: it goes directly to the formatter board through CN102.
From remote box: it goes through IC102 (enabled by IC103) and goes to the video switcher IC109 and then to
the formatter board through CN102.

? The video signals, SVHS, CVBS, RGB, Y-Cr-Cb at 15 KHz coming from the input board, are de-modulated by the
Video processor IC1 and transformed into YUV format (8 bit) at 13,5 MHz.
? The video processor recognises the video standard (PAL, SECAM, NTSC), extracts the Vertical and Horizontal
synchronism’s and converts the YUV signal into digital format. The synchronism’s are sent to the sync controller,
IC19.
? The digital signals YUV are sent to IC2, de-interlace processor by Faroudja, via 8 bit bus at 13.5MHz.
? The FLI 2200 De-interlace the Video Signals using two RD RAM IC3-IC4 .
? From the IC2 the digital signals YUV are sent to IC5, Video enhancement processor by Faroudja via 8 bit bus at
13,5 MHz.
? The IC5 video enhancement provides the possibility to adjust the video performance (sharpness, etc)
? The signal is then sent to the “Pixel Works - PW365”, IC11 imaging processor .
Da ta g ra phics
? The A/D converter (IC6) receives the Data Graphics signal RGB, Y-Cr-Cb, VGA coming from the input board,
converts them into 16X3 bit digital format and sends them to the IC11 PW365 image processor.
? In the case of “sync on green” or “composite sync” signals, the sync separator (IC9) manages the syncs and sent a
separate Horizontal and Vertical sync to the sync controller (IC19)
? The IC15 generate the System Clock at 133 MHz and the IC14 generate the Clock Panel 70 MHz.
page - 10 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
? In the case of “sync on green” or “composite sync” signals the sync separator (IC9) manages the syncs and sent a
separate Horizontal and Vertical sync to the Sync controller (IC19)
? The sync controller (IC19) manages the H and V sync in order to avoid “noises” coming from “anti-copy” signals.
? Detects the correct sync signals coming from Video input or Data input (MUX) and send them to the “Pixel works”
IC11 (PW365).
Pixel W ork s
? The Pixel Works is the heart of the formatter board; it processes the image, receives the digital signal from video
and data sections and manages the image (Shift, Keystone, OSD etc.), the IR sensor signal, keep under controls the
speed of the four cooling fans according with the temperature sensor information, detects the input coming from the
back local keyboard, drives the two DC motors of the zoom and focus controls.
? It formats the image for the DMD.
? IC13 Flash memory contains the main software; through this software the pixel works manages all the unit
function; the sync controller software is loaded into IC13.
? All data’s regarding Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Colour Balance, C.W Index, etc are stored on the EEPROM
(IC16).
? The working software of the pixel work is loaded at each power on.

The light engine is SIM2 patented and use a 0.7” Texas Instrument DMD.
? The HT300 uses one 16/9 1280x720 pixels DMD chip, 17,66 x 9,94 mm active area.
L a mp
? The lamp is a UHP (Ultra High Pressure around 200 ATM) 120W by Philips; it is based on Mercury Vapours
technology with a good spectral emission.
? The lamp type can be set by inserting jumpers on formatter board as below example.
Co n dens er lens
? The condenser lens has a particular shape in order to focus the light into the front surface of the rod integrator.
? Its particular superficial treatment allows to reflect most of the UV rays away from the light path.
Colour wheel
? The double balanced colour wheel has 6 segments: 2 Red 70°, 2 Green 55°, 2 Blue 55°; the colour sequence is R-B-
G-R-B-G.
? It turns at maximum speed of 7500 RPM. The rotation speed depends on he Input signal Vertical frequency; the
wheel can rotate up to 2.5 times the vertical frequency (see examples below).
? The speed of the colour wheel is kept under control by a reflective infrared sensor, that detects a “black flag” marked
on the wheel; the black flag is also used to correctly start the “image creation sequence” (for the adjustments refer to
chapter 5.7.1 of this manual).
Ro d in teg rat or
? The rod integrator is used to mix the light beams in order to obtain a better colour and brightness uniformity.
? It is glass made 16/9 aspect ratio with a “total” internal reflection treatment; this guarantees that all the input light
beams are driven to the output surface.
page - 15 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
? The two fold mirrors, 45° in respect to the light direction, drive the light to the DMD surface. The magnification of
the light, due to the achromatic doublet lens, is calculated in order to have a little overfill of the DMD surface.
? In the case of transportation shocks, the second fold mirror can be adjusted by three screws, in order to align the
image in respect to the DMD (refer to technical addendum 2 of this manual).
TIR pris m
? The TIR (Total Internal Reflection) prism reflects all the light beams that enter with a specific inclination.
? They are sent to the DMD surface and reflected according to the image information.
? Then all the light beams can pass through the TIR prism to the projection lens.

Projecti on lens
? The projection lens is a 12 elements “multi-coating” zoom, with motorised zoom and focus controls.
? The lens can be vertically shifted, up to +/-4,3 mm, by a mechanic knob. This is used to compensate up to +/-8°
(wide-angle zoom) and +/-5° (Tele angle zoom) optical keystone correction.

SERVICE MANUAL HT300
NOTE 1. During the insertion of the new colour wheel take care not to force the color wheel motor bearing; this
is oil lubrificated and is sensible to mechanical shocks. In the case of hard shocks the colour wheel motor
could be more noisy than normal.
NOTE 3. During the replacing operation, take care not to scratch the glass surface of the colour wheel; this could
affect the quality of the image.
NOTE 2. After reinstalling all parts, readjust the index delay of colour wheel as described on chapter 5.7.1
page - 20 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
In the case of the power supply or ballast circuit failure, proceed as follows:
page - 21 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
Note. In the case of power supply replacement, check its correct adjustment us described on chapter 5.1
NOTE 1 Before installing the new formatter board, please check the jumper settings as mentioned on chapter 3.4
(Lamp type setting) and chapter ??? (software selection).
NOTE 2. After reinstalling all parts the correct software must be downloaded.
For details please refer to chapter 5.6.
page - 22 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
In the case of the driver board failure or DMD chip failure proceed as follows:
? Unscrew the two “back plate” fixing screws (refer to below image)
page - 23 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
NOTE 1. When reinstalling the Driver board pay attention to the reference pins located on the border of
the DMD plastic support; these pins must be correctly inserted on the Driver board reference holes.
NOTE 2. In case of DMD replacement be sure that the reference corner of DMD chip matches with the
corner reference of DMD plastic support.
NOTE 3. In the case of DMD replacement, take care about the DMD type B, C, D or D; one of these
letters is printed on the DMD. The driver board must be correctly set as described on chapter 5.10
In the case the DMD chip needs to be cleaned, i.e. in the case of finger prints, the following conditions
must be observed:
1. The solvent must be free from contaminants and the cloth/tissue should be new for each DMD.
2. The cloth/tissue must be non-abrasive to avoid scratching the coating of the window.
4. The glass should be wiped from centre to edge and then turned to repeat on the other side. This is to avoid
spreading contaminants or particles from the metal onto the glass.
5. It is recommended to blow ionised air over the workbench to avoid static electricity building up on micro
fibre cloths and other non-conductive items.
6. The micro fibre cloths should be replaced very frequently as they absorb grease. Ideally, a new cloth
should be used for each DMD.
7. It is essential that, if forced (compressed) air is used to blow particles from the window, it must be very
clean (filtered) and also ionised to avoid damage to the DMD through engine.
8. Pre-moistened optical-quality tissues can be used such as Texwipe TX 811 from Texwipe Company
(European HQ is in Netherland, or Optic Prep CP410 from Chemtronics.
page - 24 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
NOTE 1. Take care not to scratch or damage the projection lens. Take care not to leave finger
prints or dirtiness on lens surface. Take care not to leave dirtiness inside the optical path.
When fixing the projection lens in its support take care of the D distance, previously
measured. For the correct adjustment of the projection lens follow the instruction on
chapter 5.5

5. Servicing
The power supply PC346 supplies, on CN5, the following outputs voltages:
The power for the lamp is 380 DCV on CB1 pin 1-3 (gnd)
- PWRG, Power Good, pin 7-6 (gnd): if one of the CN5 voltages is not OK the signal level is Low.
- OVERTEMP pin 8-6 (gnd): in the case of over temperature the signal level is Low.
- P101: is used for adjusting the power factor section output to 380DCV +/- 2V
- P301: is used for adjusting the 12V output +/- 100mV
NOTE. The first adjustment to performed is 380 DCV (P101).Both adjustments must be firstly performed with
CN05 unplugged and secondly checked with CN05 plugged.
One green LED, DL301 located under the ground connection CN03, indicates the correct functioning of the power
supply
page - 26 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
The colour wheel sensor consists of a reflective IR sensor that detects one “black flag” located on the colour wheel;
each time the black flag is detected, the sensor generates a square wave. The clock of this square wave is used, by the
driver board throgh formatter board, to keep the colour wheel speed under control.
On CN12, of the formatter board, between pin 3-4 (gnd) a square wave, that corresponds to the rotating frequency,
must be detected.
It turns at maximum speed of 7500 RPM. The rotation speed depends on he Input signal Vertical frequency; the wheel
can rotate up to 2.5 times the vertical frequency (see examples below).
In the case of projection lens replacement, as described on chapter 4.9, the following alignment procedure must be
performed.
page - 27 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
The HT300 light engine is dust proof, thanks to its underneath dust trap.
However in the case of units installed in particular dirty ambiences, the fold mirrors, located just before the TIR prism,
can be affected by light dust layer that could reduce the brightness of the unit. This is visible only in the case of
comparison between two different units.
The fold mirror can be cleaned by using a soft “glass tissue” and a “lens cleaner” , like the Luminex® type.
Do not use liquid detergents or steamers, strong solvents like chemical diluents like acetone, petrol or abrasive
detergents to clean the mirror.
2. Disassemble the unit in order to remove the light engine, as described on chapter 4.7.
3. Unscrew the TIR prism holder fixing screws (see picture 1).
5. Reinstall the TIR prism holder on the light engine body and re-insert the three fixing screws; take care not to
scratch the light path entrance.
Picture 1 Picture 2
After this operations the fold mirror does not usually require to be adjusted; in the case of any misalignment, clearly
visible at screen like unfocused coloured borders, the fold mirror can be adjusted as described on chapter 5.7
page - 28 -
SERVICE MANUAL HT300
The light engine is factory adjusted, in all its optical parts, in order have the best optical performance and the highest
brightness and contrast; usually it does not need to be readjusted before the installation.
The fold mirrors is the last mirror on the light engine path just before
the TIR prism (see chapter 3.5); this is used to project the light,
coming from the lamp, to the DMD surface. Its adjustment is factory
performed in order to have a symmetric overlapping of the light (see
drawing 11.1).
This guarantee that all the mirrors are used and the images border at
screen are correctly sharpened.
However during the transportation, due to mechanical shock hazards, the fold mirror can lightly loose its mechanical
adjustment; this could also happen after the fold mirror cleaning procedure (see technical addendum 1).
This is the only case on which the fold mirror must be readjusted

The control software is resident on the Flash memory IC7 of the formatter board; it can be upgraded by using the DB9
RS232 serial port.
During the software upgrading few files are automatically down loaded in to the flash memory.
To do this a “Flash upgrade” software is needed; with this software you can communicate from PC to the projector via
RS232 serial port.
The download can be done from computer having Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP operating systems .
1.1 Create a new folder, on HD C:\, named HT300 VERS x.xx, where x.xx is the software version you are going
to down load.
1.2 Move all the updating files to this folder.
1.3 Connect a direct DB9-DB9 serial cable from a free COM port on your PC and the DB9 plug on the input
panel of the unit (the unit must be powered off by the main switch). For the connection you need just a three
wires cable connected as follows :
HT300/250 PC
DB9 DB 9
Female Male
connector Connector
2 Tx 2 Rx
3 Rx 3 Tx
5 GND 5 GND
If you use a DB25 port on your computer you need a twisted cable as follows :
HT300/250 PC
DB9 DB 25
Female Male connector
connector
2 Tx 2 Tx
3 Rx 3 Rx
5 GND 7 GND

2.4 The window that will appear will ask to “power on the
device” . Power on the projector by the main switch only,
the unit must be on stand-by mode (red led ON and green
led OFF). You will see the blue bar running during the
downloading.
At the end of the downloading process, that will take few minutes, you will get a confirmation on screen;
confirm this message.
Power off the projector by the main switch, remove the serial cable, input a signal and power on the unit.
Check the correct software version by pressing the Info button.

? 0xEFBE is a fixed value ("Magic Number") that is used to insure packet allignment if there are partial
packets recived or byte lost. The ls-byte of the word 0xBE is sent first, then the ms-byte 0xEF.
? The Packet Type is a number (a byte in length) that defines the type of data in the packet.
The following entries are valid packet types:
0x02 (Remote keycode): Host can send any events ( es. Remote keycode)
0x03 (Operation): Host can send any operations.
? The Packet Payload Size is a number (two bytes) that defines the size of the Payload portion of the
packet.
For a given Packet Type, Packet Size is fixed.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING
The green LED on rear panel is blinking but the unit does not start, no image.
Using the remote control or the local keyboard the red LED is lighting but the unit does not switch ON.
1. Check the level of signal PWRG and OVERTEMP on CN5 of the power supply (see chapter 5.1); if both
are on Low level go to step 4
2. If PWRG is on High level switch the unit off, unplug CN5 and check again the level on the power supply;
if it is still Low, the power supply is faulty; if it is High the formatter board or the Driver board are faulty.
3. If OVERTEMP is on High level, switch the unit off; the temperature sensor, located near the lamp, has
detected a temperature higher than 90°C. Check the correct function of the three cooling fans, check if no
obstructions are present on the cooling inlets on top cover or the air outlets underneath the projector (see
user’s manual page 14). Replace the temperature sensor.
4. If both signals are in low level, the rear or front infrared sensor could be faulty; replace them.
The unit starts correctly but after few second it switches in stand by mode.

10. ACCESSORIES
The Remote Input Box (RIB) is an optional box that will simplify the projector installation in those applications on
which the source equipment are located far away from the unit.
On RIB box all the sources can easily plugged in; 2 Video (RCA plug), 2 S-Video (Mini DIN plug), 1 RGBHV (HD15
plug), RGBS (RCA plugs) 1 Y-Cr-Cb (RCA plugs), 1 RS232 (DB9 plug).
The Box is factory equipped with one 10 Mt length cable, plug and play VESA type, that connects it to the projector;
this cable is used to bring the power from the projector to the box and to bring the input signals from the box to the
projector.
Because off the RIB electronic board has been designed in order to use the 10 meters cable, this can not be shortened
or plugged to other cables.
Do not plug or unplug the VESA cable with the projector or with the RIB powered on.
The RIB box has one Green led, located on its front panel, that indicates the correct power source from the projector.
For installation and setting up details, please refer to the RIB user’s manual.
