Ladies, Gentleman and distinguished Guests a Hearty Good Morning to you all, I Harmanjot

Kaur, Chairperson, Centre for IHL&HR on behalf of Institute of Law, Nirma University
welcome you all to this esteemed gathering. Today we are here to present ourself and
witness the proceedings of the XI Edition of our Flagship Event, The International
Conference on Urban Warfare and Protection of refugees. This event is an initiative to
further the plight of the migrant refugees and to understand and tackle the new-emerging
trends of problems which may today be mere blips on the humanitarian and human rights
radar but will surely eclipse the community at large by its overshadowing peril if left
untouched today. This conference aims garner an understanding to the budding
humanitarian law and human rights enthusiasts who will respond to these challenges of the
future in real-time in the most efficient, expansive yet precise manner possible.
The conceptual idea for this international conference aimed to provide a platform for
discussions and deliberations with experts, dedicated organizations, and stakeholders in
the relevant field and I am pleased to bring to you all that this conference is rendering an
adept, agile, and novel platform to create awareness amongst students and academia and
to initiate a dialogue amongst various stakeholders responsible for the plight of the
Refugee and Un-documented Community among others successfully for the past 10 years
and with the XI Edition conference on set we would another feather to the cap with the help
of the esteemed gathering present here.

For more than a century, lawyers have been at the forefront of political and social activism
in India. So, without much further a due, today we have with us our chief guest of the
session Shri Prashant Bhushan,sir you hardly need any introduction, you have made all of
us proud of your distinguished work in numerous capacities, but still the demands of the
proceedings states so I am obliged to do so, sir is one of India's most-respected public
interest lawyers and an outspoken human rights activist. He has been practising at the
Supreme Court and Delhi High court for the past three decades. Sir has fought countless
cases relating to government corruption, environment, transparency in courts, and a range
of human rights issues. Sir is associated with various governmental and non-governmental
organizations like Centre for Public Interest Litigation, People’s Union for Civil Liberties,
and Transparency International India. He was also the co-founder of the Swaraj Abhiyan
and Sambhaavnaa in the interest of public policy and politics. Sir was also played a key role
in the “India Against Corruption” movement led by Anna Hazare with many other social
activists who participated in the anti-corruption crusade. We are pleased to have you with
us sir.

Light is a symbol of brightness and prosperity as sunlight expels the darkness of night,
similarly blessings bring in our life prosperity and happiness. To make this auspicious event
a blessed one we invoke goddess Saraswati by kindling the lamp of knowledge and
wisdom. For seeking the choicest blessings, for the same, I would now request our chief
guest of the session Shri Prashant Bhushan, our dean and director Ms Madhuri Parikh Mam
and Our Faculty Co-ordinator Prof. Anviksha Pachori to to kindle the lamp. I also invite all
the dignitaries for the same.

Thank you mam, for your kind words which give us the required driving force to strive
forward at all times. Now I would like to invite our chief guest of honour Shri Prashant
Bhushan Sir to address the gathering, I would request all the students to please keep the
track of the questions and reserve them for the Q&A session which is to be held after the
