So today we will discuss another branch of
social science; geography

So what we did in our activity has something

to do with geography.

But first let us first define geography. Geography refers to the study
of how human, place and earth
Anyone? are related to one another

Yes that’s right.

geography is a very interesting subject. The

central focus of geography is clustered
together in the form of themes.

There are five themes of geography.

First we have location.

Based from this picture, how would you

define location as a theme of geography? Location refers to your position
on this earth
That a very good answer u have there

In location, we have two types, absolute and

relative.

Absolute location refers to the prime

coordinates that involves latitude and
longitude.

Now get yourself a map as it will be

important in our study of absolute locate.

The numbers on the side of the map

vertically are coordinates of longitude
degrees. Longitude have two directions.
West and east

While the numbers that u see horizontally

are coordinates of latitude degrees. Latitude
has two directions north and south.

In locating a particular place using the

absolute location, all u have to do is to
intersect the longitude and latitude degrees.

e.g. 33 North longitude, 65 East latitude

what country is the answer?

Very good.

Lets go with relative location. It has

directions such as north, south, east, west,
northeast, northwest, southeast and
southwest.

So lets move on with the second theme of

geography.

identify the second theme of geography?
Place sir
Exactly.

Place is another theme of geography. What

particular area of study does place involve as
a theme of geography? It studies the different
landforms and waterforms that
are present in a particular area
sir. Also it includes countries.
Very good answer.

As for the third theme. What do you think is

it based on this picture? Its region sir.

That’s a very good guess.

involves as a theme of geography? It refers to the division of a
particular place
That’s right.
Region refers to the division of areas or
places that are similar to each other
