Learning Outcomes:

Learning Objectives:
● At the end of the lesson, students will be able to
○ Consider new perspectives by reading academic texts and learning about results.
○ Use prior knowledge to better connect with the story.
○ Use respectful language while learning about the texts in class and responding to
peers’ viewpoints.
○ Make predictions about what will happen based on prior knowledge.

Materials:
● Lord of the Flies, William Golding
● 80 sheets of paper
● 30 sheets of colored paper for paper hats
● Vocabulary paper

LESSON PLAN Period 2: (1 hour)

Introduction: (2 minutes)
● Take role
● Reminder about the sign up sheet

Vocabulary
● Students will complete the Frayer model of vocabulary using their continuing vocabulary
document:

Lesson
● Divide the students into 5 groups. Each group will make paper origami hats with their
color of paper that assigns them into teams.
● Each team will work together to build a paper tower. The team that builds the tallest
tower will win the awards (chocolate bars).
● After the team building game, discuss as a class…

○ Why did people follow the leaders?

Portfolio Work
● The rest of the period will be spent on portfolio work. Check on the students in the library
and the common area.
● Remind students about check-ins.

Lesson
● Continue reading LOTF
○ Continue reading the book in class. Students will read silently at their desks from
page 19 to the end of chapter.
■ Students can use the vocabulary chart to list words they do not know and
find the meaning.
■ Students who finish early, can submit their vocabulary and then work on
portfolio work.
Portfolio Work
● The rest of the period will be spent on portfolio work. Check on the students in the library
and the common area.
● Remind students about check-ins.

Conclusion:
● Check grades on edsby to double check they accurately reflect your marks.
