EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
2

As an aspiring librarian, I believe learning through literature is the cornerstone of

childhood. Learners continuously seek information and make connections. I will work to ensure

they not only see themselves as positive forces in literature; but also, know they are valued and

capable of anything they desire. My fundamental values are rooted in the marriage of both the art

and science of instructional practice (Moore, 2015). Working with students, caring for them, and

shaping their future grows from the genuine art of being human and bringing learning to life. On

the science side, moving into professional practice as an educator in a school library will require

comprehensive knowledge of teaching students with a wide variety of unique needs. Because I

value and embody this balance, I will continue to seek the best evidence-based practice to

support the diverse students in my care, while remaining aware of the importance nurturing and

empowerment play within an educational climate.

I believe that all students deserve an education in a general education setting or the least

restrictive environment. I believe in the importance of access to a learning environment that is

appropriate, positive, and engaging for everyone. I will create a successful whole class

ecosystem by collaboratively working with peers to adapt all aspects of the learning environment

to effectively instruct each student. Finally, I plan to work as both a public and school librarian

in the future. Although the environments are vastly different in many ways, access is a core value

all librarianship embodies (American Library Association, 2006). I believe in the importance of

access to accurate information seeking, proper evaluation, and healthy consumption. My efforts

will reflect these attributes, with an additional personal responsibility to keep learning and

growing with my students.
