Reges Resort’s Smoke-Free Beaches Protect Public Health

Wildwood Crest, NJ - As of Oct. 1, 2023, Reges Oceanfront Resort in Wildwood Crest, New
Jersey, has prohibited smoking on its beaches. This family-owned resort is taking action to keep
the resort clean and family-friendly. This ban comes in light of the Governor's veto of the ban on
smoking proposed by the New Jersey State Legislature that was later shot down by Governor
Chris Christie.

According to their mission statement said by Mollica, “We at the Reges Oceanfront Resort in
beautiful Wildwood Crest are proud of our oceanfront accommodations and resort amenities. We
are widely recognized for our cleanliness and exemplary hospitality service.”

With its smoke-free beaches, the Reges Resort is placing an emphasis on the health and safety of
the guests at the resort. This concern for public health is warranted as a study conducted by
Stanford University states, “If you sit within 18 inches of a person who smokes two cigarettes
over the course of an hour, your exposure to secondhand smoke could be the same as if you sat
one hour inside a tavern with smokers. Based on our findings, a child in close proximity to adult
smokers at a backyard party also could receive substantial exposure to secondhand smoke."
Similarly, a report made in 2006 by the Surgeon General found that even small exposures to
secondhand smoke can be detrimental to children’s heart and respiratory function as well as

The resort ban on smoking will improve the health and safety of the guests and general public as
well as protect the children and families that vacation at the Reges Oceanfront Resort.
