files by Saturday 11:59pm

● Chapter 12 - Tasks 1 - 4

1. What might be causing the slow response time? Prepare a brief memo explaining
system performance and workload measurement, using nontechnical language
that Personal Trainer users can understand easily.
To Personal Trainer Inc Users
From Kaitlin Paasch
Subject: System Performance
I wanted to address concerns raised by some users about the performance of the new
system. Slow response can occur due to numerous issues including:
- Server load: When many users access the system all at the same time. This can
slow down response time and the performance of the system.
- Network congestion: Internet traffic can also affect the speed and performance of
our system.
- Software efficiency: Software efficiency can also impact the speed and
performance.
We will be investigating all of these issues and make changes as needed. If there are any
reasons for downtime of the system, we will be sure to inform you. Thank you for your
understanding.

2. What could be causing the network slowdowns at Personal Trainer? If a problem

does exist, which performance and workload measures would you monitor to
pinpoint the problem?
Network slowdowns can occur from a variety of sources. These include network traffic, network
configuration, and security scans. In order to minimize the issue, I would look at network traffic
and monitor it. I would also schedule security scans for times when the network is not being
used as much, such as the nighttime. Finally, I would check the configuration of our network to
ensure that there are no problems by running a network health test.

3. At the end of the systems analysis phase, you studied the economic feasibility of
the system and estimated the future costs and benefits. Now that the system is
operational, should those costs and benefits be monitored? Why or why not?
Yes, costs and benefits should still be monitored in order to make sure the system is providing
the benefits and ensuring that the system is costing as expected. By doing this, we can
maximize the value of the system and prepare for future costs.
4. You decide to prepare a security checklist for Personal Trainer. Prepare a list of
security issues that the firm should evaluate and monitor. Be sure to organize the
items into categories that match the six security levels.
Physical Security:
a. Access control to network server rooms
b. Lack of surveillance
Network Security:
c. Malware threats
d. Phishing attacks
e. Weak firewall
Application Security:
f. Vulnerabilities in code
g. unauthorized access
File Security:
h. unauthorized access
i. Lack of encryption
Procedural Security:
j. Lack of employee training on security
k. Inadequate incident response plan
User Security:
l. Weak passwords
m. Insufficient user authentication methods
n. Social engineering vulnerabilities
