Main purpose of job

To maintain aviation security standards ensuring the safe and smooth


transition of passengers, staff and airport users in accordance with EU and
DfT regulatory requirements, service delivery standards, SOP’s and
performance targets

The Security Officer has the responsibility of safeguarding passengers,


ground personnel, crew and the general public from unlawful interference with
civil aviation.

Main tasks of the job;

Ownership for working together as part of a team to achieve KPI’s,


Compliance and business objectives, resolving any issues in line with the
Terminal Operations Quality Management System (SEMS)

Operate to and comply with SOP’s (standard operating procedures)

Carrying out the physical search of departing passengers, their hand luggage
and airport staff with the aid of security and screening equipment to ensure no
prohibited and/or dangerous articles or persons gain access to the Critical
Part.

Carry out searches of buildings and vehicles

Be self-motivated and goal driven

Undertake recorded patrols by foot or vehicle of airport premises and


periphery, remaining alert and vigilant for the purpose of identifying and taking
appropriate action to;

• Prevent unauthorized access, trespass and intrusion onto airport


property, especially the Critical Part

• Report any damage to perimeter fence or other property buildings
which compromise security of the Critical part or airport property
• Report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately to the Terminal
Manager
• Report any non-compliance issues

Responsible for staying up to date on all orders and staff notices/instructions.


In the event of being unclear, know where to find and refer to them

Staffing and controlling access points – identifying and verifying persons and
vehicles entering the critical part.

To control and prevent unauthorized access at Security Access/Control Posts


by means of;
• verify boarding cards of intending passengers at Control Points
• Refuse entry to unauthorized persons and take action where necessary

Unattended items/suspicious articles – evaluating a situation and taking the


necessary course of action.

Liaising with the travelling public, regulatory bodies, airlines, outside


agencies and other departments within the airport and dealing with queries in
a polite, professional and efficient manner

To resolve queries from customers and assist them with their journey through
the airport

Identifying potentially difficult situations and dealing calmly and effectively with
conflict situations. Be able to react quickly to rapidly changing situations

Submitting written reports in the event of involvement in an incident or a


security breach

Check equipment on a daily basis and be responsible for the equipment used.
Report any missing, damaged or unserviceable equipment to the Security
Operations Manager

Ensure all posts are in a clean and tidy condition at all times.

Escorting duties within the Critical Part

Evacuations – ensuring the quick and safe evacuation of the general public
from all areas of the airport including all offices in the case of an emergency
including a fire.

Monitoring of CCTV equipment.

To be available where necessary to undertake any training required as
relevant to job role

To assist with various ad hoc duties as reasonably required from time to time

Security Responsibilities;

Cleared to CTC level

High level of Confidentiality required

Pay due care and attention to security procedures both on and off site to
ensure the safety of yourself and others.

Ensure security legislative requirements are complied with (such as instructed


during initial and annual refresher General Security Awareness Training,
GSAT).

Not to undertake any tasks or functions that will compromise the security of
self, others or the organisation and to ensure that any acts that are witnessed
that appear to breach security procedures are challenged immediately.

Ensure any acts which are believed to breach security procedures are
reported through the Security Incident reporting scheme and to the relevant
managers.

Health and Safety Responsibilities;

Ensure health and safety legislative requirements are met such as DSE
assessment and health and safety awareness meeting all corporate HSE
targets

Pay due care and attention to health and safety procedures and
recommendations both on and off site to ensure the safety of yourself and
others.

Not to undertake any tasks or functions that will endanger self or others and
shall ensure that any unsafe acts that are witnessed are challenged
immediately.

Ensure any hazards or unsafe acts are reported through the Accident and
Safety reporting scheme and to the relevant managers.

operation

Work standards to be maintained in accordance with London City Airport and
Department of Transport regulations.

Will be required to work with high value technical equipment.

Need to exhibit great attention to detail especially when viewing and


interpreting x-ray images.

This position requires particular attention to your senses (vision, touch, smell,
hearing) especially when searching persons and/or their belongings.

You will be responsible for making decisions and working as part of a team to
effectively assist with the running of your shift

Responsible for your own personal standards of appearance, behavior,


performance and compliance

Working conditions:

London City Airport is open up to 20 hours a day over 7 days of the week
therefore flexibility with regard to hours will be required

May be required to report for duty at unsociable times, including nights
