OGL 481 Pro-Seminar I:

PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation is my taking over a remodeling project, and the project as a whole.
The project is to redo the entire roof of the building, and finish the interior. My role in
this particular situation is project manager.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

The human resources of the organization strongly influenced the situation


ensuring they hired the right people (Bolman & Deal, 2021). The military is very strict in
who they let in. There are a neumorous amount of physical and mental test that you go
through just to get in. The military knows exactely what they are looking for and they
nade sure that these tests would secure them exactly the right people for the job. Do not
get me wrong the physical test is not some big strenuous activities you have to do. It is
more along the lines of executing a task and them making sure your body is able to move
a certain why or do certain things.

The other test they make you take is more of an aptitude test. This test is given to
ensure that they put the right people in the right place, not just throwing things at people
and seeing what sticks. This test scores you in 4 different specialties, and based on those
scores you will get a selection og jobs that you will likely do well in. Sometimes there are
a few people that are lucky enough to be able to chose exactly what they want to do, but
more often than not, that military is going to put you where they need you while still
place you somewhere you will thrive.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

Unfortunately, in this career field, and in this case in particular, there is is not
much room for alternate courses of action. For one thing, it is the military and there are

things that need to be done a ceratin way no matter the situation. On top of that, there is
the fact there are very few ways to accomplish a remodel. The roof needs eto be redone
and well, there was really only one course of action that could be taken. Sure, there are
some subtle nuances that could vary by project, but the basic framework of the task is the
same.
There is not much difference when it comes to people. Because of the way the
military filters out the undesirables from the beginning there where no real issues on the
human resource side of things. Again, I was very fortunate that this was my first go round
with managing a project. The military sort of took care of a lot things for me. Not the big
stuff, mind you, just some of the small things that I might not have thought of had I had
to do it on my own.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

As with the previous frame and my statement above, I was very lucky to have a
project that took care of itself, especially with this frame. I mean they get the right people
for the job, you have job protection in the form of enlistment contracts, there is an
established promotion system, and they invest in and empower their employees. That
being said, I am very greatful that this project turned out the way it did in this aspect and
I hope I will be able to take what I have observed and learned onto future projects.
