NURSING INFORMATICS

TRENDS IN NURSING INFORMATICS

1. CLINICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM

- A clinical information system (CIS) is an information system designed specifically for use
in the critical care environment, such as in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). It can network
with the many computer systems in a modern hospital, such as pathology and
radiology. It draws information from all these systems into an electronic patient record,
which clinicians can see at the patient’s bedside.

2. INTERFACE BETWEEN THE INFORMATICS NURSE AND THE CLINICAL

INFORMATION SYSTEM
- Clinical informatics, a branch of health informatics, includes nursing informatics.
Almost always, nurse informaticists are also practitioners. Instead of inserting IVs,
they might spend their days concentrating on resource use, information gathering
and storage, billing systems, and intranets. Nevertheless, they are qualified to give
patient care due to their training, expertise, and credentials. They've simply decided
to focus their efforts on using data administration and analysis to improve nursing's
effectiveness and efficiency. Clinical informatics, a branch of health informatics,

3. TRENDS IN COMPUTING
- Computer trends are changes or evolutions in the ways that computers are used
which become widespread and integrated into popular thought with regard to
these systems. These movements often begin with one or two companies adopting
or promoting a new technology, which grabs the attention of others and becomes
popular. Both hardware and software can be a part of computer trends, such as the
development and proliferation of mobile devices including smart phones and
tablets. Changes in the Internet, the development of new websites, and the
expansion of cloud computing models are likely to be similar software trends
throughout the early part of the 21st Century.
