the name of the labour is changed to that of exercise. It differs from
ordinary labour as its motive is different. The body is a system of tubes
and glands. The tubes and glands are fitted to one another in so
wonderful manner as to make a proper engine for the soul to work with.
This description does not only include bones, veins and nerves and
arteries but also every muscle. This general idea of a human body lets
us see how absolutely necessary labour is for the body. There must be
frequent motions to mix digest and separate the juice contained in it.
Labour is also necessary for cleaning the tubes and glands and to make
their solid parts firm and lasting. Labour or exercise helps nature in
secret distribution. Without it the body cannot maintain its strength nor
the soul acts with cheerfulness.
We might here mention the effects which this has upon the powers
of the mind, keeping the understanding clear and imagination
untroubled. There are laws of union between soul and body. Had not
exercise been absolutely necessary for our wellbeing, nature would
have not made the body so proper for it.

It was a long ride to the Sorely farm and the sight of a man walking alone
the country road, as seen just ahead by the lights of the car, was
welcome relief to the doctor. He slowed down and looked at the man

“The literature of Swami Vivekananda has multiplied my sense of
patriotism a thousand times” said Mahatma Gandhi. Rabindranath
Tagore said, “If you want to understand India, try to understand Swami
Vivekananda”. By these words, we can easily say and understand the
huge personality of this great saint of the later 19th century. Swami
Vivekananda was born on 12th January, 1863 in Calcutta. In his
childhood and boyhood, he was Biseshwar (Bile) and Narendra (Naren).
He became the disciple of a great saint Ram Krishna Paramhansa and
was given the name of Swami Vivekananda. He proved himself to be
the most dazzling star in the parliament of Religions, Chicago in the year
1893. All young generation must try to understand Swamiji, if we want
to make our country free from corruption, superstitions, idleness, we
must make him our model. He established the Ramakrishna Mission,
Math at Belur. It gives light and inspiration not only to India but the whole
world. He loved all religions. He said, “The whole universe is ours to
enjoy. But want nothing. To want is weakness. Want makes us beggars
and we are the sons of the king, not of a beggar”.

Q.11 Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given

below –

The great advantage of early rising is the good start it gives us to our

day’s work. The early riser has done a large amount of hard work before

the other men have got out of bed. In the early morning, the mind is

fresh, and there are few sounds or other distractions, so that work done

at that time is generally well done. In many cases, the early riser also

finds time to take some exercise in the fresh morning air, and this

exercise supplies him with a fund of energy that will last until the

evening. By beginning so early, he knows that he has plenty of time to

do thoroughly all the work he can be expected to do and is not tempted

to hurry over many part of it. All his work being finished in good time, he

has a long interval of rest in the evening before the timely hour when he

goes to bed. He gets to sleep several hours before midnight, at the time

when sleep is most refreshing, and after a sound night’s rest, rises early

next morning in good health and spirits for the labours of a new day.
