OVERVIEW
A B O U T

The Finance and Investment Cell of Kirori Mal College was established in 2016
as a student-led initiative to enhance knowledge in the areas of finance and
business. Its primary goal is to transform individuals into knowledgeable
professionals, equipping them with valuable skills. The cell strives to create a
platform that offers opportunities for creativity and fosters brilliance among its
members. It aims to empower individuals by enhancing their skill sets, fostering
ideation, organizing memorable events, honing marketing abilities, and
nurturing leadership qualities. Members of the cell join with a desire to learn
about financial markets and leave as confident individuals with a deep
understanding of the financial world.

The cell takes pride in organizing MULYA and ADHIMULYA, two prestigious
events at Kirori Mal College. These events feature various competitions,
including case study competitions, finance treasure hunts, mock stocks, model
corporate meets, pitching competitions, quizzes, and many more. Additionally,
the cell publishes Investreet, an annual journal that provides meticulously
curated content on finance and economics, leaving readers eager for more.
The cell recently launched its podcast, “The IN₹ Show”, which has been a hit
among the audience. Since its inception, the Finance and Investment Cell of
Kirori Mal College has experienced remarkable growth and has established
itself as one of the most prominent societies.

OVERVIEW
OUR CONVENORS

Mrs. Balbir Kaur is an integral part of FIC, KMC, serving


as the Convenor of the cell. She is a distinguished
professor in the Department of Commerce at Kirori
Mal College, University of Delhi. Prof. Kaur's expertise in
the field of accountancy and finance has played a
vital role in fostering a culture of financial literacy
among the students. Under her leadership, FIC has
been working tirelessly to promote financial education
and empower individuals. Mrs. Balbir

Professor Seema Joshi, the Co-Convener of FIC KMC,


provides guidance and support to the cell. She is an
esteemed Professor of Economics in the Department of
Commerce at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, with
over 28 years of teaching and research experience.
Under her mentorship, the Finance and Investment Cell
has achieved significant milestones and successfully
spread knowledge to a broader audience in the field of
finance and economics.

OVERVIEW
A I M S

The Finance and Investment Cell aims to foster knowledge, learning, and
practical skills in the field of finance among its members. The cell strives to
provide a platform for students to expand their understanding of finance and
its various aspects, including investment, financial markets, business finance,
and economics. Through a range of activities, events, and initiatives, the cell
strives for:

Knowledge Amplification: The cell aims to amplify the knowledge of its


members by providing resources, workshops, seminars, and guest lectures
on finance-related topics. It seeks to enhance their understanding of
financial concepts, principles, and practices.

Skill Development: The cell focuses on developing practical skills that are
essential in the finance industry. It offers opportunities for members to
sharpen their analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and
communication skills through case studies, simulations, and hands-on
experiences.

Networking and Opportunities: The cell aims to create a vibrant


community of finance enthusiasts and provide networking opportunities
with industry professionals, alumni, and other finance-related
organizations.

Event Organization: The cell organizes various events, competitions, and


workshops related to finance. These events aim to challenge and engage
members, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in practical
scenarios.

Publishing articles and blogs: The cell fosters an environment that


stimulates exploration and inquisitiveness in the field of finance. Its primary
focus is to advance scholarly conversations and foster groundbreaking
ideas by disseminating research through journals, articles, and reports.
Additionally, the cell actively promotes innovative thinking by curating
thought-provoking content such as articles, blogs, and Finbuiss i.e. financial
business updates.

Personal and Professional Growth: The cell aims to contribute to its


members' personal and professional growth. It provides mentorship,
guidance, and support to help individuals develop their potential, become
confident leaders, and make informed financial decisions.

Overall, the Finance and Investment cell aims to create a dynamic and
inclusive environment that empowers students to excel in the field of finance,
equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and opportunities to
succeed in their academic and professional journeys.

MULYA, the annual flagship event of FINANCE AND INVESTMENT CELL, KIRORI MAL
COLLEGE, a student-driven initiative towards acquiring and sharing knowledge
among finance enthusiasts, was organized from 27th to 28th April 2023 with
spectacular events and riveting competitions.

The fest commenced with a seminar headed by Mr. Vivek Gambhir. He


enlightened us all by sharing his journey from a college student to the
Chairman of BOAT. The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session
where the audience asked him questions and he shared invaluable personal
and professional lessons. The seminar was a tremendous success, leaving the
audience in immense awe of the financial world that lies ahead of them.

The seminar was followed by the inaugural event: PSYCHE Y.O.U.


It was a murder mystery including the rounds of Treasure Hunt, Fragile
Forensics, Tragic Trails, and Hands in Havoc. The participants were put in the
shoes of Joe Goldberg and had to prove their innocence in the rounds. Team
Paco was crowned as the winner and Team Beck was the first runner-up. With
the completion of the seminar and enthralling event, Day 1 ended successfully.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

The second day commenced with the events GANGTOWN DA SHASAN and
INVESTRON-X taking place simultaneously. Gangtown was based on the
theme of the iconic movie Gangs of Wasseypur. This event boasted of the
human size boardgame HATYA-CHAAR incorporated with finance-related
challenges where the teams had to acquire resources with their corpus. In the
final round, they had to strategically acquire resources to win.

Investron-X was a MOCK STOCK competition where the teams had to bid for 12
portfolios and acquire one of them. This financial havoc of an event included
floor-based training and also a quiz to get insider information, thus giving the
full vibes of DALAL STREET.

With the conclusion of all three events and with 2000+ registrations and
gripping competitiveness, MULYA 23 was a maverick success.

FLAGSHIP EVENT ADHIMULYA‘22

The FINANCE AND INVESTMENT CELL organized its semi-annual flagship fest
ADHIMULYA 2022 which was held on 30th October and 1st November 2022. It
had three major events followed by a speaker session. The events Chaotic
Psychotic, Curse the Crusoe took place on the first day while Cincinnati the
Sincity and speaker session took place on the second day.

The fest started with Curse the Crusoe whose theme was Pirates of the
Caribbean. The motive of the event was to test the genial intelligence of the
participants with an adventurous feel in it. The subsequent event Chaotic
Psychotic was based on a mystery room and problem-solving, designed in a
way to test the participant's financial intelligence and thinking skills. The first
day ended on a good note.

The second day started with a speaker session on Indirect taxes and reforms
in India: Major Milestones and challenges. The honorable speaker for this
session was Sr. Parmod Kumar (IRS).

The last event Cincinnati the Sincity was based on the theme of a famous
virtual game GTA. It was an all-action and adrenaline-filled contest where
strategic planning and investments made participants victorious.

With the conclusion of this event, Adhimulya 2022 came to an end and was a
successful fest.

The Finance and Investment Cell, Kirori Mal College successfully organized an
Excel Bootcamp to develop, meaning up-skill and improve the technical
proficiency of the students. This was a three-session camp open to students
from all colleges and all courses. The bootcamp was free of cost and the
attendees were also given e-certificates for the same. The cell only accepted
120 registrations on a first come first serve basis and to our surprise, within 20
minutes all the seats were filled. The sessions were conducted every Sunday,
from 5th February onwards, on Zoom. Certificates were also provided to the
attendees.
The sessions were taken by Mr. Ayush Gupta, ex-kirorian and an analyst at
Walker Chandiok and CO LLP (Grant Thornton). He creates content on MS Excel
with 2000+ followers on LinkedIn. Mr. Gupta had previously taken two Excel
expert sessions in ICAI Jalandhar and FIC, Kirori Mal College, and also won the
best paper presentation award at CA Student Mega-Conference, Ghaziabad.

The guest speakers were Professor Sunil Singh Abhivyakti and Mr. Aman
Sharma.

Bhaawan Dhingreja, President of FIC KMC, addressed the crowd to kick-start


the session. A short 15-minute quiz was also organized. The winners were
awarded scholarships benefitting the UPSC CSE preparation. Prof. Abhivyakti
addressed the crowd with his motivating words. He focused on the strategy
needed to effectively start UPSC CSE preparation at the college. He also
emphasized the importance of selecting optional subjects in college itself.

Mr. Aman Sharma addressed the audience: "What do you need to crack UPSC
CSE?". He focused on the need for analytical ability, continuity, and discipline to
crack UPSC CSE. He emphasized the concept of mirroring yourself during
preparation.

Guidance and information about the UPSC CSE preparation courses at


Unacademy were also provided. In the end, gratitude was expressed towards
the speakers and audience.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
OFFLINE VISIT TO SEBI

Date: 5th September 2022

The Program Visit to SEBI was successfully conducted on 5th September 2022
by The Finance and Investment Cell of Kirori Mal College. The program was
attended by 40 members of the Cell accompanied by two convenors, Dr.
Seema Joshi and Mrs. Balbir Kaur. The session began with a brief introduction
by Mr. Gyanendra Niraj, the Asst. General Manager of SEBI. The keynote
speakers for the event were Mr. Anupam Samanta, Asst. General Manager of
SEBI and Mr. Kunal Sonawane, Asst. General Manager of SEBI. Mr. Anupam
Samanta initiated the session by discussing the Regulatory role of SEBI in the
financial sector through an audiovisual presentation. It highlighted that the
primary aim of SEBI was to empower Indian Investors to invest with knowledge
and information. He also gave insights as to how one should maintain a
balance between risk and reward.

The session was carried forward by Mr. Kunal Sonawane, who briefed us about
SEBI, its functioning, and reforms and shed light on the Indian Securities market,
its players, and its participants through a PowerPoint presentation. Further, Mr.
Anupam Samanta commented on the different types of markets' namely
Equity, Debt, and Mutual Funds, and narrated the electronic trading
mechanism in the modern secondary market.
To address the grievances of the aggrieved party, SEBI has come up with its
redressal mechanism called SCORES(SEBI COmplaints REdressal System).
There was an interactive session with the students wherein they were
enlightened on how to invest from scratch with the right financial knowledge. It
was followed by a question and answer session. In the end, a vote of thanks
was extended to the speakers by Mr. Bhaawan Dhingreja, President of FIC.

UPCOMING EVENTS
A D H I M U L Y A

ADHIMULYA, the semi-annual flagship event of FINANCE AND INVESTMENT CELL,


KIRORI MAL COLLEGE will be conducted in September - October. It will consist of
three main events followed by a speaker session and a financial boot camp.
The boot camp will consist of extravagant sessions about consulting, case
studies, and elements of hardcore finance. After these sessions, the first day
ends.

The second day will commence with further seminars in the boot camp
followed by the inception of the first round of all three events. The enthusiastic
participants will showcase their precise and prudent skills in solving the initial
obstruction and embark on a journey of treacherous rounds lying ahead. With
exemplary hustle and bustle and a huge sigh of relief, the winning teams will
proceed to the subsequent rounds, thus marking the end of day two.

On the third day, as we continue the legacy, the air will be infused with the
captivating intricacy of round two in all events. Determined expressions,
meticulous calculations, and unwavering competitiveness, coupled with smiles
of joy, will embody the collective endeavors of the teams, ultimately bestowing
upon us our champions. Thus, Adhimulya will culminate with massive
participation and competitiveness, making it a resounding success.

S E B I V I S I T

The FINANCE AND INVESTMENT CELL, KIRORI MAL COLLEGE, will visit the
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), where members will seek to
understand the world of mutual funds, financial markets, and their importance
in our careers through various guest speaker sessions.

The importance of investing in mutual funds and relating it to investment in


human resources will be presented through an interesting PowerPoint
presentation during the guest session.

The visit will conclude with an exciting quiz session, and the winners will be
awarded mementos. Refreshments, gifts, and certificates will be provided to all
the members for the visit.

The speakers from SEBI will discuss dreams, careers, and the importance of
financial planning. They will highlight the significance of mutual funds and the
stock market, promoting financial literacy among the members.

The Finance and Investment Cell, Kirori Mal College will conduct webinars
throughout the upcoming tenure where prominent personalities from domains
like Economics, Commerce, and CAs will be invited for guest lectures.
These guest lectures will help the members deeply understand the world of the
Indian Taxation system, the Indian Economy, the commerce industry, financial
markets, and many more.

Seminars focused on finance will be organized to delve deeper into specific


aspects of the subject. These seminars will cover a wide range of topics, such
as portfolio management, derivatives, corporate finance, and personal
finance. Experts in these areas will be invited to share their knowledge and
insights, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of complex financial
concepts.

Industry visits will be organized to renowned financial institutions and


organizations, such as banks, stock exchanges, and investment firms. This will
allow the members to observe the functioning of these institutions firsthand,
understand their operations, and gain a deeper understanding of the financial
industry.

The Finance and Investment Cell aims to provide its members with a holistic
learning experience by organizing industry visits, speaker sessions, and
seminars on finance. These initiatives will enhance their theoretical knowledge
and equip them with practical skills and industry-relevant insights, preparing
them for successful careers in finance.

M U L Y A

MULYA, the annual flagship event organized by the Finance and Investment
Cell at Kirori Mal College, is scheduled to take place in February. The event will
feature three main competitions followed by a speaker session.

The event will kick off with the speaker session, followed by the
commencement of the first round for all three competitions. Participants will
demonstrate their precise and astute skills as they tackle initial challenges,
setting the stage for the demanding rounds that lie ahead. With a lively
atmosphere and a sense of relief, the winning teams will advance to the
subsequent rounds, marking the end of the first day. The three competitions
will include our prominent mock stock competition along with other theme-
based events.

On the following day, the tradition carries on as the second round unfolds in all
competitions. Teams will exhibit determined expressions, meticulous
computations, and steadfast competitiveness as they aim to secure triumph.
With substantial participation and intense rivalry, MULYA will culminate in a
astonishing success for FIC.
