1. WHAT IS SUSPENSION SYSTEM

-A suspension system is a set of mechanical connections, springs, and dampers that

connect the wheels to the chassis. It has traditionally performed two functions: managing the
vehicle’s handling and braking for safety, and keeping passengers comfortable from bumps,
vibrations, and other factors. It is a mechanical system of springs or shock absorbers connecting
the wheels and axles to the chassis of a wheeled vehicle.
-A Suspension system refers to all parts that work together to protect parts from shocks.
Springs connect the automotive chassis to the axles in an indirect manner. It is done to protect the
body of the vehicle from road shocks caused by bounce, pitch, roll, or sway. These road shocks
make for a bumpy ride and put additional strain on the car’s frame and body.
2. FEATURES OF VEHICLE SUSPENSION
A vehicle suspension system is a collection of components that connects a vehicle to its
wheels and allows relative motion between the two. The main functions of a suspension system
are to provide a smooth ride, improve handling and stability, and to keep the tires in contact with
the road surface
Springs: These are typically made of steel or a composite material and are designed to
absorb road shocks and vibrations.

Shock absorbers: These are dampers that control the movement of the springs. They help
to keep the wheels in contact with the road surface and prevent excessive bouncing.

Control arms: These are connected to the frame of the vehicle and the wheels and help to
control the movement of the wheels.

Anti-roll bars: These are bars that are connected to the suspension on both sides of the
vehicle. They help to reduce body roll and improve handling.
Ball joints: These are connections that allow the control arms to move in multiple
directions.

Struts: These are a combination of a spring and a shock absorber that are used in some
suspension systems.

Air suspension: This is a type of suspension system that uses air instead of springs to
support the weight of the vehicle.

3 HOW SUSPENSION SYSTEM HELP TO REDUCE ROAD SHOCKS

The suspension system helps to reduce road shocks by providing a mechanical interface
between the wheels and the body of the vehicle. The main components of the suspension system
include the springs, shock absorbers, control arms, and anti-roll bars. They work together to
absorb and dissipate the energy of road shocks and vibrations, reducing the amount of shock that
is transmitted to the rest of the vehicle and its occupants.
