Standard Slope Classification

• Always copy and paste all survey data from original topography plan (by Land Surveyor) to a new drawing.
• Add standard template into the new drawing by right click at “Model”.

• Click “From Template…”.


• Click open on “_AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 MALAYSIA 110501” file from folder “AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope
Classification”. Click “OK” once done.
• Repeat right click at “Model”, click “From Template..” and click open “acad_JKR_C3D11_101201” file from folder
“AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope Classification”. Click “OK” once done.
• Type “APPLOAD” and enter.

• Look for a file name “txt2xyz.VLX” under subfolder “AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope
Classification”
• Choose “txt2xyz.VLX” and click “Load”. Close once done.

• To convert the existing ground level to 3D value. Type “TXT2XYZ” and enter. Type “LAYER” under
command of “Select Text Objects By:”. Click on any existing spot level layer on the plan.
• Type “1” under the command of “Enter starting point number<1>:..”. Click enter and save the file
in “AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope Classification” folder. Click “OK” if any window pop-up
block appears.

• To create original ground surface, right click at “Surfaces” under the “TOOLSPACE” and click
“Create Surface…”
• Type “OGL” under the row of “Name”. Click “OK” once done.

• Under subfolder of “OGL” and followed by “Definition”, right click on “Point Files”. Click “Add..”

• Under the “Specify point file format”, choose “PENZ (comma delimited)”.

- Click “Add files”.

• Choose “txt2xyz” file that was previously saved in “AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope
Classification”. Then click “Open”. Finally click “OK” once done.

• To identify the lot boundary. Right click at “Boundaries” under the subfolder of “Definition”. Then,
click “Add…”. Type “BOUNDARY” under the “Name:”. Click “OK” once done.

• Select the project boundary layer.

• A black dot shown at subfolder “Boundaries” after


project boundary layer has been selected. It
means the project boundary data has been
added in the programme.

• To do slope classification analysis, right click on “OGL”. Click on “Surface Properties..”

• In Information, choose “Slope Banding (2D)” under the “Surface style:”.

• In Analysis, choose “Slopes” under the “Analysis type:”. Change the “Number” to 4. Then click
“Run analysis”.

• Under the “Range Details”, change the “Minimum Slope” and “Maximum Slope” according to
Standard Slope Classification % (to convert the slope degree to percentage (%)) by double click on
the value boxes. Click “Apply” once done.

Slope Class Degree Conversion Percentage (%)

I < 15 ( 15 x 3.142 / 180 ) x 100% = 26.18% < 26.18

II 15 to 25 ( 15 x 3.142 / 180 ) x 100% = 26.18% 26.18 to 43.63


(25 x 3.142 / 180) x 100% = 43.63%
III 25 to 35 (25 x 3.142 / 180) x 100% = 43.63% 43.63 to 61.09
(35 x 3.142 / 180) x 100% = 61.09%
IV > 35 (35 x 3.142 / 180) x 100% = 61.09% > 61.09
Standard Slope Classification

• Click on the blank box next to “Preview”. Right click on the “Preview” window and click “Save
Image”. Save file in the “AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D MANUAL-Slope Classification”. The table shows the
total area for each Slope Classification.

• The plan now showing the Slope Classification area.

• From the plan and table, it shows that most of the


proposed project site terrain is fall under Slope Class I.
