Power Generation through Speed Breaker, SPSU, Udaipur
January 2017
SOFT SKILLS
Analytical
Led a team of 3 in conception of electricity generation via a speed breaker
by using the weight & speed of the vehicle as the input. The speed breaker Communicator
was designed using a specific vibrating material and it was further shaped Team Player
into a trapezoid. This resulted in the maximum pressure being applied when
Problem Solver
the vehicle is at the middle of the speed breaker and due to this when the
maximum pressure in the front unit exceeded its limit, a valve would open to allow pressurized air pass through the nozzle.
Subsequently a rotor would get activated which was directly connected to a generator to produce electricity.
Conceptualized a Solar Chimney prototype, which consisted of a large chimney at the center of the field covered with a large
glass. The heat generated forced hot air through the gap between the ground and glass collector, which further passed through
the chimney and strike over a turbine. Subsequently the turbine would spin and lead to energy generation via a generator.
Formulated the concept for a Solar-based Power Satellite which involved the collection of light and channelizing the solar energy
obtained into usable energy. Analyzed the advantages of collecting solar energy including a higher collection rate & longer
collection period due to the lack of a diffusing atmosphere and further studied the possibility of placing a solar collector in an
orbiting location for continuous supply of energy. The space-based Solar Power Satellite consisted of three element including
reflectors or inflatable mirrors, microwave or laser for wireless power transmission to Earth and a microwave antenna for
receiving power on Earth
The circuit consisted of 8051 Microcontroller, 2 IR Sensor Motors & Motor Drivers, IC (embedded in a module) and 2 IR Sensors
which were mounted on the front of the robot while the diode was facing towards the ground.
