Step 1 — Preparation

Text for instructions Step 1:
This pattern is printed on 8.5″ × 11″ sheets of plain paper. Do not scale or center pages before printing. Wait
until all sheets are printed out before beginning to tape them together. Do not cut out pattern pieces yet—
Arrange the sheets on a large, hard, flat surface so that they fit together, matching up like numbers and letters
(i.e. 6A to 6A). To tape pattern together, fold under the margin of one piece (6A) and tape right against the
line of it’s matching number/letter (6A).

Flannel:

Lining: pocket piece 2×.
Step 3 — Shoulders
Stitch shoulder seams and top sleeve seams as continuous seams. Stitch right side seam and sleeve seam.
Neaten seam allowances together and press onto back.

marked neck edge. Trim seam allowances. Turn facing strip to inside and press edge. Work from right side to
topstitch neck edge with the twin needle.
Step 5 — Side
Stitch right side seam of skirt, leaving an opening, 15 cm (6 ins) long, for pocket, 2 cm (3/4 in) below upper
edge.
Step 8 — Ribbon
Stitch petersham ribbon to skirt panels â— one piece above marked hem line and 3 more pieces above this,
spaced 25 cm (10 ins) apart. Stitch petersham ribbon vertically along centre front of skirt panel.
Step 9 — Skirt
Gather upper edge of skirt to 69 â— 73 â— 77 â— 81 â— 85 cm (271/4 â— 283/4 â— 301/2 â—
32 â— 331/2 ins). Baste pocket pieces to inside upper edge of skirt. Baste upper skirt edge to a piece of
petersham ribbon so that ribbon extends 3 mm (1/8 in) wide at top. Lay a second piece of petersham ribbon
over it and stitch. Pin upper skirt edge to lower edge of bodice so that petersham ribbon lies on bodice, next
to seam line. Stitch along lower seam of petersham ribbon
Step 10 — Zip
For the zip opening, measure 20 cm (8 ins) below skirt joining seam and mark end of slit. Sew invisible zip
to left side edges, between slit marks. Leave top ends of zip tapes loose. Stitch left side seam from lower
edge to zip. Stitch left sleeve seam and side seam above zip as continuous seam.
Step 11 — Hem
Press hem allowance to inside and sew in place by hand. Press sleeve hem allowances to inside. Stitch from
right side, 4.5 cm (17/8 ins) wide, with the twin needle

Step 12 — Buttons
Sew buttons along centre front of skirt, spaced 8 cm (31/4 ins) apart.
