LKPD Applied Problem System of Linear Equation Into Matrices
LKPD Applied Problem System of Linear Equation Into Matrices
In our daily life, we face many problems involving more than one unknown quantities. We can frame a system
of linear equations taking those unknown quantities as variables and change them into matrices.
1. Costumes have been designed for the school play. Each boy’s costume requires 5 yards of fabric, 4 yards
of ribbon, and 3 packets of sequins. Each girl’s costume requires 6 yards of fabric, 5 yards of ribbon, and
2 packets of sequins. Fabric costs $4 per yard, ribbon costs $2 per yard, and sequins cost $.50 per packet.
Use matrix for applied the problem above.
Solution:
Step 1
Write down the information that you get from the question above!
Step 2
According to the problem, what you will get: Make into System of Linear Equation
Step 3
After you get the System of Linear Equation, we can make those equation into matrices
[ ]∙[ ]= [ ]
[ ]=[ ]∙[ ]
Step 4
Can you try to solving this problem using a matrice
2. If the length of a rectangle is increased by 3 meters and the breadth is decreased by 3 meters, its area
decreased by 18 square meters. Again, if both length and breadth are increase 3 meters, its area increase
by 60 square meters. Find the length and the breadth of the rectangle.
Solution:
Step 1
Write down the information that you get from the question above!
Step 2
According to the problem, what you will get: Make into System of Linear Equation
Step 3
After you get the System of Linear Equation, we can make those equation into matrices
[ ]∙[ ]=[ ]
[ ]=[ ]∙[ ]
Step 4
Can you try to solving this problem using a matrice
3. David has a total of $15,000 in three investments. One of the investments consists of bonds that pay 6
percent annual interest, another is a saving account that pays 5 percent annual interest, and the third is a
business. Two years ago, the business lost 3 percent and his net income from the three investments was
$550. Last year the business earned 9 percent and his net income from the three investments was $910.
How much does he have in each of the instalments?
Solution:
4. The present age of a father is 3 times the age of his son. 5 years before, the age of father as 4 times the
age of the son. Find the present age of the father and the son

1. Danny and Budi together can do a work in 4 hours. Budi takes 6 hours more than Danny to do the
work alone. In how many hours Danny alone can do this work?
2. If the length of a rectangular park is increased by 2 m and the breadth is decreased by 2 m, then its
area is decrease by 28 m2. Again, if the length is decreased by 1 m and the breadth is increased by 2
m, then its area is increased by 33 m2. Find the area of the park.
3. The sum of the ages of a father and his two sons is 52 years. The difference of ages of two sons is 3
years. When the elder son will attain the age of his father, at that time the sum of their ages will 136
years. Find the present ages.
