Guidelines for Summer
Internship Project

INTRODUCTION
As per the requirements of the Savitribai Phule Pune University , at the end of Second
Semester each student shall undertake a Summer Internship Project (SIP) for a minimum of
8 weeks. For SIP, 1 credit is equivalent to minimum 40-45 hours of effective work. SIP shall
have 6 credits. It is mandatory for the student to seek advance written approval from the
faculty guide and the Director of the Institute about the topic and organization before
commencing the SIP
Each student shall maintain a SIP Progress Diary detailing the work carried out and the
progress achieved on a daily basis. The student shall submit a written structured SIP report
based on work done during this period. The student shall submit the SIP Progress Diary
along with the SIP Report. Students shall also seek a formal evaluation of their SIP from the
company guide. The formal evaluation by the company guide shall comment on the nature
and quantum of work undertaken by the student, the effectiveness and overall
professionalism. The learning outcomes of the SIP and utility of the SIP to the host
organization must be specifically highlighted in the formal evaluation by the company
guide. The SIP evaluation sheet duly signed and stamped by the industry guide shall be
included in the final SIP report

This training has the following objectives:


1. To expose the students to the current business environment
2. To acquaint with the hierarchy of the various levels of management
3. To understand the processes involved in the working of the various functional
departments of the organization.
4. To know the relationship among the people working in the unit
5. To establish link between theory and practice.
6. To apply multi disciplinary concepts ,tools and techniques to solve organizational
problems
7. To create awareness of various research topics in the business environment.
The students for MBA are required to submit a project report based on the observations
in the field of functional area or general business environment. The project report should
be written in a technical and scientific manner which is not only in a presentable form but
also complete in all respects. This project report is basically a kind of mini research
project. Research is a systematic effort of gathering, analysis and interpretation of the
problems to find meaningful solutions.
A research project report should aim:
1. To discover the answers to business problems
2. To achieve new insight in to a business phenomenon
3. To portray the features of particular business situation
4. To find the frequency of occurrence

Minimum 20 articles (news articles/ journals online/ print)
Name of the author of article/research paper taken for review
Title of the article/research paper taken for review along with year. The year will help in
knowing how recent is the topic and what gap existed at that time. Review write up
should be in scientific manner covering.

ii. Title and objectives in summary form

iii. Methodology adopted to study the objectives

iv. Summarizing the major findings of research paper

In case of projects where there is no requirement of research methodology and sample
selection should specify methodology followed and also describing the rationale behind it
while adopting for the project. The rationale should be established as per the guidelines.

This point should cover the following:
i. Different types of data analysis techniques used in the research project should be
specifically mentioned. Such as:
ii. Basic analytical tools which include Tabular Analysis , Graphical Analysis,
Percentage Analysis or Ratio Analysis etc. should, be specified
However the use of data analysis method will depend upon the type of data.
CHAPTER 4: Data analysis
If the project is task based/ activity based, relevant task/ activity details, summery tables of
tasks performed , charts, graphs etc. should be compiled in appropriate chapters.

Tables and Graphs:


Tables and graphs should be placed as near possible to the text. Possibly do not break the
tables in to pages.
Statistical tools may be applied for analysis immediately after the interpretation ( If
required).

 Link the objectives with results of the data

 Implications of findings

 Personal perspectives of the student on derived results

The findings should be reflected in interpretation of data. It should also correlate with the
key concepts defined in chapter 1.
If the project is Project based then entire process will be mention in data analysis
chapter as per the discussion with respective college internal SIP Guide.
If the project is task based/ activity based, relevant task/ activity details, summery tables of
tasks performed , charts, graphs etc. should be compiled in appropriate chapters.
CHAPTER 5
Suggestions and Recommendations
If the project is task based/ activity based, key leanings, key contributions to the
organization should be documented after the suggestions and recommendations. The utility
and importance of findings in framing suggestions and drafting recommendations should be
mentioned

Instructions for typing
1. Paper: Executive bond, A4 size, white
2. Font style: Times New Roman
3. Font size: 12
4. Font Color: Black, Diagram and graphs can be coloured as per choice of students
5. Line spacing: Double for the text and single in tables and footnotes
6. Paragraph spacing: six (6) points before and after paragraph spacing
7. Margins: Left margin-1.5” , Right margin- 1”, Top margin-1” and Bottom margin 1”
8. Alignment: The entire report should be typed with justified alignment except tables.
Tables should be centrally aligned.
9. Graphs and Tables: These should be placed as near possible to the text
10. Headings: The headings and its text should be on the same page

11. Page numbers: These can be inserted in Arabic numbers at right most top corner or
bottom corner or at center of bottom. Pre factory materials and post factory materials
should be numbered continuously in roman numbers

Binding the Report:
After the final print of the three copies of the reports, candidate is supposed to check and
confirm the sequence of pagination .Then project report is to be given for binding. In the
process of binding following things are to be carefully monitored:
1. Give the cover page for Golden Embossing

2. Do carefully proof-reading of the cover page.

3. Clearly indicate the colour for the front page, normally Black.

4. Give proper instructions to the binder regarding insert of extra blank butter or plastic
pages.

5. Ask only for Hardbound copies of the projects, (Plastic/Spiral bound not allowed).

6. Binding should be neat and attractive.

7. Clearly indicate the time and date to complete the binding task.

8. Get fully dried project from the binder.

 Never enter into any department without permission
