1. Production is the process of making or manufacturing goods and products from raw
materials.
2. Farming is generally the main activity of Palampur (a hypothetical example of Indian
villages) and other smaller activities are small-scale manufacturing, dairy, transport,shop
keeping, etc.
3. Production activities require various types of resources such as natural resources, man-
made items, human effort, money, etc.
4. Villages in rural India use old ways of transport such as bullock carts, tongas, bogeys
(carts drawn by buffaloes), motorcycles, jeeps, tractors and trucks.
5. The bogeys and motor vehicles are loaded with commodities such as gur (jaggery).
6. Rural Indian villages generally comprise of people from different castes, where the upper
castes are generally rich and landlords and the SCs are poor and labourers for the upper
castes.
7. The upper castes have big brick houses while the SCs have small huts made of straw
and mud.
8. Palampur is fairly well-developed with electricity connections , education,
roads,transport,health, irrigation, etc.
9. The SCs are separated from other people in a corner of the village though they comprise
more than one third of the entire population.
