Reflection Paper

The study of a new course has been the battleground over different lessons for each
student. My own learning experience of this course apparently cannot represent every
student’s situation. The course name constructive grammar was designed to provide students
a clear thoughts about grammatical concepts. This course also shares teaching techniques.
How to teach grammar is also a major concern of this course. I was hoping after this course I
would have a clear idea about how rhetorical and pedagogical grammar works; it's clear
views in the real-life context. While enrolling in this course, I had the same expectation that
in this course, I would be able to learn different types of grammar and how these different
types of grammar shape the language of the learner. I am pleased that this course delivered
more than I expected from this course. Only by reading from the course map, do students
only get the possible ideas; however, after doing this course, I have learned too many things
that I was expecting from this course.

Firstly, the assessment process of this course was really great. I enjoyed all the
assignments. As a TESOL major, I am not a fan of examinations. I believe in practical
practices. I am glad that this course has practical assignments as well as only final
examinations. I like the way, the course instructor, takes the courses and teaches the theories
of this course. This course helps understand the different types of grammar and why the
learner needs to learn it. I like the discourse analysis assignments where I have the
opportunity to evaluate the writing based on the mechanics and rhetorical items. Here,
classroom learning also meets the practical implications. In addition, to the narrative
assignments, I have also been able to share my journey and perspective on grammar.
Moreover, I also like the way we share our views in online posts. It was a great learning
opportunity for all of us and we can share our thoughts about different concepts.

After that, there is always room for improvement in every great journey. Here, I
believe more practical assignments and tasks can be done instead of final examinations.
Moreover, alongside the class work, we had to submit assignments that evolved my
vocabulary and grammatical habits in writing. Nevertheless, both my writing and oral skills
improved for the better, giving me the confidence to continue to learn more. As a student, I
lack ideas about how this course can be more effective because this is already well-planned to
learn what is required. The way and the techniques were on point as I have seen in myself
that I have learned. There is no end to learning and ways of techniques, more useful ideas are
appreciated.

Lastly, the focus of this course on comparing and contrasting the grammar of Bangla
and English also acted as a bridge, helping us to comprehend the unique characteristics of
each language and to get a greater comprehension of the universals and variations of
grammar. To enable us to become more proficient at comprehending, valuing, and applying
the tenets and philosophies of grammar in a variety of linguistic situations, the course
explored linguistic diversity and cultivated critical awareness.

Overall, altogether, this course was very interesting, dynamic, and enjoyable. Your
teaching techniques, inspirational words, and patience have highly motivated us and taught us
that teaching is not only about providing instructions, rather it is also about creating a suitable
environment for students while providing lessons. This course, I am concerned, this journey
is a lifetime experience that has changed lots of aspects of my life. Nevertheless, as I cannot

learn everything so soon I am on the right path and hugely grateful for the opportunity that
this course gave me.
