Steve Jobs, born on February 24, Nineteen fty- ve

in San Francisco, California, and died on October 5, 2011, in


Palo Alto, in the same state, was an American entrepreneur
and inventor, often regarded as a visionary. He was a
signi cant gure in consumer electronics and a pioneer in the
advent of the personal computer, digital music player,
smartphone, and tablet. He co-founded, served as CEO, and
chairman of the board of the American multinational company
Apple Inc. He also led Pixar Animation Studios and became a
member of Disney's board of directors after Disney's
acquisition of Pixar in 2006.

Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple


on April 1, Nineteen seventy seven, in Cupertino. Steve Jobs
recognized the commercial potential of the work done by Xerox
Parc on the graphical user interface and mouse, which led to
the development of the Lisa and then the Macintosh in
nineteen eighty four.

These were the rst mass-market computers to bene t from


these innovations. After losing a power struggle at Apple with
the CEO he had hired, John Sculley, Jobs left the company in
September Nineteen eighty ve to establish NeXT.

In Nineteen eighty six, he acquired Lucas lm's Graphics


Group, transformed it into Pixar Animation Studios, and
achieved commercial success in Nineteen nighty ve with Toy
Story, a lm in which he served as executive producer. He
remained the majority owner and CEO of the company until its
acquisition by the Walt Disney Company in twenty six.

In early nineteen ninety-seven, Apple, on the verge of
bankruptcy, acquired NeXT. This move allowed Steve Jobs to
return to the helm of the company he co-founded and provided
Apple with the source code of NeXTSTEP, which served as the
basis for the development of the Mac OS X operating system.
Over the next fourteen years, he oversaw the creation, launch,
and development of the iMac, iPod, iTunes, and the Apple
Store retail chain, the iTunes Store, the iPhone, and the iPad.
He presented these various products at a multi-year pace
during his famous keynotes, turning his company into one of
the wealthiest in the world at the time of his death.
In two thousands and tree , Steve Jobs learned that he had a
rare form of pancreatic cancer. Initially, he declined surgery and
instead relied on various pseudo-scienti c methods such as
acupuncture, consuming carrots and fruit juice.

He passed away on October 5, ten thousands and eleven, at


his home in Palo Alto at the age of fty-six. His death sparked
a signi cant wave of emotions worldwide.
