INTRODUCTION
The EPW eligibility requirement is 60%. Any learning activity in or outside class at any point in the course
that serves as a formative assessment can be considered a part of the Elective Project Work. It can be
completed in any form such as checking a learning activity and could be of varying lengths or have
multiple stages. EPW assessment may focus on all language skills (reading, listening, writing & speaking)
and systems (grammar & vocabulary). The EPW assessment is the responsibility of EPW teacher.
Assessments do not need to be pre-assigned. No make-up tasks should be given if a student misses any of
the assessed tasks. No extra or bonus tasks should be given to the students to make up for the tasks that
students miss.
Due to the formative nature of the EPW assessment, EPW tasks should be designed and outlined on the
weekly planners and student course calendar. Students will work towards particular goals. Students will
be engaged in a process of learning, the stages of which will be assessed.
Students should be given the Elective Project Work Student Handbook at the beginning of the course.
Teachers should go through in the class and then ask the students to sign each page of the handbook.
Teachers should then collect the signed copies and upload them onto the relevant folder on BOX for the
HTUs to access.
A number of electives will be offered to you as part of your corresponding level in the Preparatory
Program. These electives will be sponsored/lead by a teacher from the Preparatory Program. Examples of
electives include book club, short story club, film club, poetry club, creative writing, newsletter, etc.
Participation and projects created in EPW will be incorporated into your overall course grade. In these
electives, you will work on the tasks assigned by the teacher and these tasks will be graded. Your teacher
will inform you about the general weighting of graded tasks and the distribution of this weighting among
tasks. During these tasks, you can work in the designated rooms and areas within the building premises.
It is your responsibility to make sure that you do not leave the building and the designated area during
task and class time.

The various components of EPW will depend on the nature and scope of the elective being offered.
EPW teachers will decide on the number of graded tasks (with periodic checkpoints to measure
students’ progress). EPW teachers will also inform students about the number of tasks, task completion
date, and the weighing of each task. EPW teachers can also decide on how to assess tasks (e.g. through
task completion, participation, and/or end product).
EPW will be worth 100 points overall. The detailed breakdowns for EPW will be shared with you by
your EPW teacher.
