Alien Cat

Amigurumi pattern by Irina Savenkova

The alien cat is about 42 rows tall.
Work in a spiral, not complete rounds.
Most of the increases and decreases are symmetrical
(see pattern). If necessary, make one stitch more or
less than it’s said to keep parts symmetrical.
Legs, arms, tail are joined while working on the body
(but you will also need to sew a couple of stitches on
the each part). Body and head are crocheted as one
part. Arms, muzzle, chin, nose, eyelids and ears are
sewn on. Stuff the legs, the body and the head as you
work on them. The other parts are not to be stuffed.

You need:
● 2 colors of the same weight yarn: color 1 for
the body and the head, color 2 for the boots, the
gloves, the belt, the tail, the face and the ears;
● Hook (size depends on your yarn: choose
smaller hook size than is recommended for the yarn
you use);
● Stitch markers;
● Filler;
● Safety eyes (use large ones, with a diameter of
4-5 stitches);
● Needle and thread for sewing;
● Optional: a small piece of plastic to put inside the legs to keep the soles flat.

Abbreviations:
● MR - magic ring
● Ch - chain
● St - stitch
● Sc - single crochet
● Ss - slip stitch
● Hdc - half double crochet
● Inc - increase
● Dec - decrease
● Inc/hdc - increase made of hdc: two half double crochet in one stitch
● Dec/hdc - decrease made of hdc: crochet two half double crochet together

How to read the pattern (example):
31: (inc, 3 sc)*3 = 15 st. In round 31 make one increase, then 3 sc, then again one increase and
3 sc, and again one increase and 3 sc (so you repeat the sequence in the gaps for 3 times). At
the end of this round you should have 15 stitches.

Tail
1: Use the color 2 yarn: 6 sc in MR = 6 st.
2-3: 6 sc = 6 st.
4: 2 ss, sc, 2 hdc, sc = 6 st.
5: 6 sc = 6 st.
6-11: repeat rounds 4-5 = 6 st.
12-17: 6 sc = 6 st.
18: 2 ss, sc, 2 hdc, sc = 6 st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail
for sewing.

Arms (make 2)
1: With the color 2 yarn: 6 sc in MR = 6 st.
2-5: 6 sc = 6 st.
6: Change to the color 1: 6 sc = 6 st.
7-8: 2 ss, sc, 2 hdc, sc = 6 st.
9-11: 6 sc = 6 st.
12: Make as many sc as needed to finish on the inner part of
the arm, in the armpit (see photo). Ss, fasten off, leaving a
long tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2)
1: Start with the color 2 yarn: 7 sc in MR = 7
st.
2: 2 inc, 4 inc/hdc, inc = 14 st. Place a
marker between 8 and 9 st to mark the front
middle of the leg. Cut off two plastic circles
a bit smaller than the circle you have
crocheted (see photo).
3: Back loops only: 14 sc = 14 st.
4: 6 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc = 12 st. Put the plastic
circles inside the feet to make the soles flat.
5-8: 12 sc = 12 st.
9: 7 sc, dec, 3 sc = 11 st. Dec is at the front middle.
10-11: 11 sc = 11 st.
12: Change to the color 1 yarn. 7 sc, inc, 3 sc = 12 st. Inc is at the front middle.

2
13: sc, 2 dec, 7 sc = 10 st. Dec are at the back middle.
14-17: 10 sc = 10 st. Finish on the side of the leg (see photo). Stuff the leg firmly.
Left leg: ss, fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Right leg: keep crocheting the body.

Body and Head

18: Join legs together. On the
right leg: sc, 2 inc, sc. On the left
leg: sc into the 2nd st of the row,
2 inc, 5 sc. on the right leg: skip 2
st. 4 sc starting from the 3rd st =
20 st (see scheme). Make sure
both legs are placed properly and
symmetrically. If necessary,
move round 18 to the left or to
the right to keep the legs in a
proper position. Increases are
symmetrical to the legs’ connection. Sew 2 skipped stitches of the each leg together.
19: 20 sc = 20 st.
20: Change to the color 2 yarn. 5 sc. Join the tail. On the tail: 2 dec/hdc starting from the 1st st.
On the body: skip 2 st, 13 sc starting from 3rd st = 20 st. Sew the skipped stitches (2 on the tail
and 2 on the body) together.
21: Change to the color 1 yarn. Sc, 2 dec, 2 sc, 2 dec, 9 sc = 16 st. Decreases are symmetrical
to the middle of the back.
22: 16 sc = 16 st.
23: sc, dec, 3 sc, dec, 8 sc = 14 st. Decreases are symmetrical to the middle of the back.
24: 14 sc = 14 st.
25: dec, 4 sc, dec, 6 sc = 12 st.
Decreases are symmetrical to the
middle of the back.
26: 12 sc = 12 st.
27: Join arms. On the right arm: 4
sc starting from the 1st st. On the
body (back): skip 2 st, 4 sc
starting from the 3rd st. On the
left arm: 4 sc starting from the
2nd st. On the body(front): skip 2
st, 4 sc starting from 3rd st (see
scheme). Make sure both arms
are placed properly and
symmetrically. If necessary,
move round 27 around the arms or the body to keep them in a proper position.

3
28: 2 dec/hdc, 4 sc, 2 dec/hdc, 4 sc = 12 st. Decreases are symmetrical to the middle of the
back. Stuff the body. If one of the shoulders looks lower than the other (it can occur because of
working in a spiral) stuff it a bit more firmly.
29: 6 dec = 6 st.
30: 6 inc = 12 st.
31: (inc, 3 sc)*3 = 15 st.
32: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc)*3 = 18 st.
33: (inc, 5 sc)*3 = 21 st.
34: (3 sc, inc, 3 sc)*3 = 24 st.
35: (inc, 3 sc)*6 = 30 st.
36-39: 30 sc = 30 st. Place safety eyes between
rounds 36 and 37, 2 st apart. If the rounds start
between the eyes, place them at the same level:
left eye is between 36 and 37, right eye is between
37 and 38 (see photo).
40: (dec, 3 sc)*6 = 24 st.
41: (2 sc, dec)*6 = 18 st. Stuff the neck (if possible)
and the head..
42: (dec, sc)*6 = 12 st.
43: 6 dec = 6 st. Fasten off, tighten the hole.

Nose and eyelids (make 1)

Use the color 2 yarn. 16 ch, 5 hdc starting
from the 2nd ch from the hook, 11 ch, 10
sc starting from the 2nd ch from the hook,
2 sc in the last hdc, 10 sc. Make more or
less stitches in this part depending on the
eyes’ size. The eyelid goes around the
eye to the lower point of the eye. The tip
of the nose is a bit lower than the lower
edge of the eyes (see scheme and photo).

4
Muzzle (make 2)
Use the color 2 yarn.
1: 3 inc in the ring of 3 ch. This method allows
to make rounds more smooth, without poking
round 1 (see photo. Left one starts with 3 ch,
right one - with 6 sc into MR). However, you
can make 6 sc in the MR if you find it more
convenient.
2: (inc, sc)*3 = 9 st. Ss, fasten off.

Chin (make 1)
With the color 2 yarn:
1: 2 inc in the ring of 2 ch. (or 6 sc in the MR).
2: (inc, sc)*2 = 6 st. Ss, fasten off.

Ears (make 2)
Use the color 2 yarn.
1: 3 sc in the MR = 3 st.
2: 3 inc = 6 st.
3: (inc, sc)*3 = 9 st.
4: (inc, 2 sc)*3 = 12 st.
5: (inc, 3 sc)*3 = 15 st.
6: (inc, 4 sc)*3 = 18 st. Ss, fasten off.

Face assembling
1. Sew the eyelids on around the eyes. Changing the position of the eyelids, you can
change the face expression.

5
2. Sew on the muzzle and the chin.
3. Sew on the nose. If desired, embroider the nose with color 1 thread.

4. Sew on the ears.

5. If desired, make sculpting. Stitch from the middle of the chin to the angle between the
muzzle and the eyelid on both sides.
