BAWANG MERAH & BAWANG PUTIH

SCENE 1

Narrator (Afifah) : Once upon a time, in a countryside lived a family that is Bawang Merah and
Bawang Putih. What in life, Bawang Putih fulled of snubbing, torture, also gripe. Until one day,
Bawang Putih wanted to wash clothes. Bawang Putih immediately rushed to the river with all the
laundry belonging to her, her mother, and also Bawang Merah. With enthusiasm, Bawang Putih
washed all the clothes she brought. But unfortunately, her mother's favorite clothes suddenly
drifted into the river.

Bawang Putih : No! How is this? It was mom's favorite shirt. I have to bring it back.

SCENE 2

Narrator (Isna) : With great difficulty, the Bawang Putih traced the river carefully. After tracing
the river for a long time, Bawang Putih suddenly saw a cave close to the river. Feeling that her
mother's clothes might be there, Bawang Putih walked towards the cave. Not long after, she was
greeted by a grandmother. Bawang Putih who saw the grandmother, immediately asked about his
mother's clothes that were washed away in the river.

Bawang Putih : Excuse me Grandma, did you see the yellow shirt that was washed down the

river?

Grandmother : I saw it, and I picked it up.

Bawang Putih : Do you want to give me that shirt? That's my mother's shirt. If I don't bring it

back home, I'll get scolded.

Grandmother : Well, I'll give you the clothes if you help me.

Bawang Putih : What should I do?

Grandmother : Help me get some water, and find some firewood.

Bawang Putih : All right, I'll help you.

SCENE 3

Narrator (Alya) : With a kind heart, Bawang Putih helped grandma sincerely. After helping,
grandmother gave Bawang Putih stepmother's clothes. In addition, because she felt so helpful,
she also gave the Bawang Putih a small pumpkin.

Grandmother : These are the clothes I promised you, pretty girl. And you've worked so

hard, I'll give you this pumpkin. Please accept it.

Bawang Putih : Thank you grandma. Even if it's not because of your clothes, if you ask for my

help, then I will still help you like this.

Grandmother : Thank you, you're a good girl.

Bawang Putih : Nice to meet you, bye.

Grandmother : Nice to meet you too, take care!

SCENE 4

Narrator (Hasna) : After that, Bawang Putih went home with the pumpkin in his hand. When she
got home, she was scolded by her mother and Bawang Merah for taking so long to come home.

Mother : Why did you come home so late? You forgot to cook lunch!

Bawang Merah : Because of you, I had to cook my own lunch, you know!
SCENE 5

Narrator (Hasna): Later, Bawang Putih told me everything that happened to her and how she was
given a pumpkin by her grandmother. However, because the pumpkin was small, the mother
wasn't satisfied and slammed the pumpkin on the floor.

Mother : You're draining your energy that should be spent cleaning the house with this

little pumpkin? I don't need this little pumpkin!

SCENE 6

Narrator (Alya) : After the slam, much to the surprise of the mother and the Bawang Merah. Yes,
because the contents of the pumpkin were gold.

Bawang Merah : Mom, this is gold!

Mother : Yes, it's gold. We'll be rich, ha ha ha! Bawang Putih, could you guide the

Bawang Merah to the grandmother?

Bawang Merah : What?

Mother : You must help the grandmother, so that you can be given this pumpkin too.

Bawang Putih : All right.

SCENE 7

Narrator (Isna) : After that, the Bawang Merah, and Bawang Putih leave the house and head to
the river. After pointing the way to the Bawang Merah, the Bawang Putih returned to its home.

Bawang Merah : Where is the cave?

Bawang Putih : When you get to the riverbank, you keep walking westward on the

riverbank, and you will soon find the cave.

Bawang Merah : Okay.

SCENE 8

Narrator (Afifah) : Next, the Bawang Merah after meeting the grandmother, Bawang Merah
helped her with what she asked. While doing his chores, Bawang Merah thought that she and her
mother would become rich and have lots of gold.

Bawang Merah : Grandma, I've done what you asked.

Grandmother : Okay, I'll give you a reward. Here are two pumpkins. There's a big one and

a small one, you can choose.

Bawang Merah : I'll choose the big one.

Grandmother : All right, here it is.

SCENE 9

Narrator (Afifah) : Finally, Bawang Merah brought the big, heavy pumpkin home. When she got
home, she was welcomed by his mother.

Mother : Well done, Bawang Merah. You have a bigger pumpkin than Bawang Putih

had before.

Bawang Merah : We're going to be a rich, mom. Ha ha ha!

Mother : Yes, whatever you ask for, I'll buy.

SCENE 10

Narrator (Isna) : After opening the gourd with excitement, Bawang Merah and mother were
surprised to see what was inside. Instead of gold, the gourd contained a caterpillars.

Mother : Aaaa caterpillar!

Bawang Merah : No, keep the pumpkin away from me, mom!
Narrator (Alya) : Bawang Merah and her mother were experiencing severe itching due to
caterpillars on their body parts. They asked Bawang Putih for help to cure it. After getting
Bawang Putih kindness, they realized that they had done a lot of wrong all this time especially
towards Bawang Putih, and apologized. Finally they lived peacefully, and happily.

END OF STORY

Narrator (Hasna) : From this story, we learn that Bawang Putih, who was always patient and
kind, eventually got happiness, while Bawang Merah and her mother, who were arrogant and
greedy, faced the consequences of their actions. So in conclusion, people who do bad things will
get the same. However, people who do good will get good things too.
