Areas of GIS Application;

 Agriculture sector
The general application of GIS in the agricultural sector includes agricultural mapping, soil analysis, data
combination, interaction with farmers, nutrient management, land suitability assessment, improving
supply chain management process, crop yield forecasting, climate change, and automated farm systems.

 Health Sector

GIS has become increasingly popular for its application in the health sector. It is used in public health for
epidemiological studies, to analyze chronic disease trends, analyze access to public health services,
manage health programs, support better public health planning, predict diseases, and identify high
priority areas which need maternal care. GIS provides a platform to store and aggregate medical
records, visualize data, manage data, collate information, and monitor the trends of diseases. It can also
be used to map health indicators, disease incidence, analyze spatial patterns of disease, and investigate
health delivery systems. GIS has enabled spatial representation of data to support better public health
planning and informed decision making.

 Natural Resources
GIS is widely used in natural resource management to identify and assess natural hazards, monitor
changes in the environment, conduct risk assessments, analyze and model data, and monitor
environmental conditions. It is used to generate heat maps that provide detailed and accurate
information about population distribution and density, land use, and settlement patterns. GIS is also
used to produce maps that show ecological conditions, such as water bodies and pollution levels in
rivers.

 Transport Planning

The use of GIS in transportation planning is widespread. It is used for infrastructure planning and
management, transportation safety analysis, travel demand analysis, traffic monitoring and control,
public transport management, and GIS-T applications. GIS is used to identify and analyze existing
infrastructure, plan and manage future investments, analyze traffic safety, and develop models for
routing, scheduling and capacity planning. GIS can also be used to develop and apply a GIS for planning
the location of on-street bicycle routes. Additionally, GIS helps to create design templates that explain a
prospective project like a highway, airport, or port.
 Real Estate

GIS technology has many applications in the real estate industry. It enables real estate professionals to
provide clients with important information about flooding risk, land quality, property boundaries, and
zone types. GIS can also be used for market analysis and to compare pros and cons of real estate
investments. Additionally, GIS can be used to find land and property, compare features by overlaying
data layers, determine acreage and distances, access land sale data, improve communication for real
estate clients and team members, and access on-demand mobile solutions.

 Taxation
Geographic Information Systems for Property Tax assessment can be used by local government
authorities to maximize the government income and as the basis for decision-making. GIS-based
systems enable Urban local bodies (ULBs) to have a record of properties accurately in line with the
property tax jurisdictions of commercial, residential or industrial and provide a 360-degree view of
taxable revenue stream. The platform offers a 360-degree view of all the properties in the jurisdiction to
zones, wards, blocks and any custom country-specific definition, accurately collects the tax history and
future liabilities for property owners, generates tax notifications and records reconciliation across the IT
ecosystem. The platform also offers real-time information to administrators of governing local bodies as
well as to property owners using a web-based application. The platform ensures accurate information
for local bodies administrators and staff with a centralized database for all types of properties and helps
them take proactive steps to reduce defaulters. The platform offers complete compliance with local
governing bodies rules and regulations and integration with other Revenue Collection & Finance
systems.

 Petroleum
Applications of GIS in the petroleum industry include data index maps, which enable oil and gas
companies to easily access digital maps of their petroleum resources. GIS technology also provides
important tools for oil and gas exploration, such as 3D GIS with field layout and flexible geological maps
thematic mapping technology for oil and gas reserves. Facilities management, health and safety
monitoring, and route optimization are other applications of GIS in petroleum. Additionally, GIS is used
for environmental assessments, pipelines and pump stations, areas of historical oil and gas exploration,
and directional drilling.
