Electromagnetic Waves (EE 203003) - BT - End Sem - V - Dec. 20
Instructions:
1. Assume suitable data wherever essential and mention it clearly.
2. Writing appropriate units, nomenclature, and drawing neat sketches/schematics wherever required is
an integral part of the answer.
3. Attempt any five questions. All question carry same marks.
1. A. What is the loss less transmission line? Compare it with low loss transmission line. 10
B. A transmission line has primary constants R=0.1 ohm/m, G =0.01 mho/m, L= 0.01 10
µH/m, C =100 pF/m. Find the characteristic impedance of the line at 2 GHz.
B. Draw the following on the smith chart (make tentative smith chart in your copy, and
plot the values). The normalizing impedance is 50 ohm.
10
A. 50+ 75j
B. 10
C. -80j
D. VSWR=2.5.
E. Min and Max resistance for VSWR 1.5
B. A 50 ohm loss less transmission line is connected to a load 50+50j. The maximum 10
voltage measured on the line is 50volt. Find the power delivered to the load and the
peak voltage at the load end of the line.
B. A radio station on the surface of the earth radiates a sinusoidal wave with an average 10
total power of 50 kW. Assuming the wave is radiated equally in all directions above the
ground, find the amplitude of the electric and magnetic fields detected by a satellite 100
km from the antenna.
5. Briefly explain the following terms. 20
1. Reflection Coefficient
2. VSWR
Enrolment No:
3. Guide wavelength
4. Cavity Resonator.
5. Loss less transmission line.
6. A. Discuss different types of antenna arrays with suitable examples. Find the 10
normalized field pattern for the array of two point source with equal Amplitude and
out of Phase.
B. What do you understand by the field regions? 10
