Dear David

I read an article about transnationalism and identity and I really think you should also get into it
if you want. I can send you a few articles I have read so far as well. I learned about what it means
to find our identity and how it affects us constantly in our lives. We grew up with parents that
immigrated to the United States so we can have a better life but have you ever thought about
where you fall under. Are you an American or are you Mexican like your parents? Maybe it's a
lot to think about especially when our people are being discriminated against. A lot of people are
afraid to say who they are and what they identify as. Transnationalism is another thing we face in
our lives with language barriers and different kinds of culture we grew up with compared to
other people we went to school with.

The article I read that I think you should look into more is called “Becoming Hispanic” by
Robert Yarbrough. This article was talking about the main idea of being a hispanic individual
living in the United States just like us. I never realized how deep it was being Hispanic in the US
until reading this article. It talks about how people have an Identity crisis and how people are too
afraid to say what they want to identify as. I also learned in the article that a lot of people assume
most Hispancis are Mexican. When you and me both know we are not all Mexican especially in
our community a lot of us are from different parts of Central America. It was really eye opening
to see what others believe and the struggles of what they were going through. Like When I said
people were afraid to say they were latino or hispanic schools or friends would think they are
coming from a different country don't understand english and grow up in a poor neighborhood
when it's not always like that. I just wanted to let you know that again you should really look into
it because I know how you like to read that kind of stuff since we grew up the same way you and
I both know we had some similar experiences to these people.
